White cribs & teething damage

If you have/had a white crib and didn't have rail protectors for it, when your LO started teething, did it just leave dent marks or did the paint actually chip off?

The paint chipped off on my crib when DD was teething and I'm trying to figure out if this is normal for a painted crib or an issue with the crib I got.  Just wondering because I need a second crib and would ideally like a matching white crib since the girls will share a room.

  • The paint actually chipped off. Wish I had put rail guards on :[

  • The paint chipped, but I was able to get a paint pen from the manufacturer to fill in the spots.  Didn't look 100%, but looked a lot better!

  • I don't have a white crib but I have had cherry and natural wood and no matter what you have it will chip the paint off if they teeth on the rail . We actually used the bumper to cover the rail so my son wouldn't teethe on it .

As soon as I noticed my little one starting to bite the crib rail, I did the DIY fleece (no sew!) crib rail cover.  Really easy and cheap and it looks cute--and let's hope it will save the crib rail!  She still bites it, but the fleece just gets wet so far (I've untied the fleece to look at the rail below and it seems okay so far).

There are tons of websites with instructions and variations, but I used this one!  It was great!
