Have any of you started to plan a party? if so are you doing something small?
My LO first birthday was a total blow out party that went from noon-5 for the kids and then 6-1am for the adults. We had a water slide and it was catered which was nice all my hubby had to do was cook hot dogs and burgers for the kids. We spent months planning her first and we even have a coupon from the same waterslide company from last year. We are thinking of doing it all over again just a little maybe not so big but we will have it catered again. Such a time saver and it wasnt expensive either. Just checking in to see what you all have planned.
Re: 2nd Birthday
We had a huge first birthday party. I never want to do that again.
We had a much smaller second birthday party. Just a few of his friends and their siblings and parents. We had a little food (veggies and dip, crackers and dip, fruit skewers, packets of Annie's bunny crackers and applesauce for the kid, plus cupcakes). Balloons, a couple banners, some confetti, and a tin sign. It was very low key, easy, and lots of fun.
At 2, my son wouldn't have cared for a huge party. His party was more of a "play date plus" than a party, so it worked well for us.
I'm a chronic planner, so of course I already have an idea and plan. When we get back form a few vacations this summer, operation 2nd birthday will be in full swing. (I LOVE throwing parties, so I get excited to have one that's fun.)
We're doing Thomas this year, and I think we may have it at the train museum, depending on how many guests we have, because it is limited. We live away from family, and I'm debating whether we should invite his class to it or not. His birthday is in October, so unfortunately a park that has a little train will be done for the season then. I'll be hoarding party supplies, decorations, and what not over time, and probably start making the invites soon.
Last year, we rented out a room at the local park. We had maybe 20 people, mostly friends and family. We did a generic first birthday theme as he wasn't old enough to care.
This year, I've been collecting ideas on pinterest for an animal theme. It'll probably be about the same size if not smaller. Since we'll be throwing it at our place this year, I'll be cooking everything most likely. We won't bother with overly fancy/costly parties until he's old enough to appreciate it, maybe by age 4 or 5.
We're really similar in a lot of ways - no Thomas, but I think we're going to do a train themed birthday at a train museum for his birthday in October.
His first birthday was mostly family and some friends, in a park, so pretty low key. The second birthday I'm hoping will be low key also, given that I'll just have to show up with food and balloons. But we'll invite some more of his class/friends from our mommy group.
LO loves trains! Everytime he sees Thomas anything he gets excited, so I know he'll love that. I think the hoopla is more for me, I used to always have get togethers and parties, but since we've moved I don't get to do that because we really don't have many friends here. So LO's birthday is my party planner outlet.
He's a social kid, so I think he'll enjoy it. For his first birthday it was a huge deal (wasn't initially planning it that way) and we had it with the family (tightknit large extended family) back home. This time I want to just do it here, sad that his cousins won't be here, but hoping it will still be nice. I would guess the grandparents will make it up.
We're the same with trains. He's Choo Choo obsessed. We have the Chuggington set at home because they talk to each other, which he loves. And we're planning a trip in a REAL TRAIN next weekend, which i know he's going to be excited about.
I get my party planning bug out with him AND DH. DH's birthday is in November, and I've already got plans for that one too!
