Two Under 2

Tell me which diaper bag you use....

So with #2 on the way, I'm trying to simplify my life. Yeah right.

We currently have an Eddie Bauer messenger diaper bag. DH picked it out because it was something he wouldn't mind carrying around.

But he never carried the bag anyways, so I want to get something else, preferably that can be a backpack or a messenger bag.

What diaper bag worked for you? DD1 will be 18 months when DD2 gets here. I assume I will need a little less for DD1 than I do now. We do cloth diaper, which is always a huge space taker.

Anyhow, any suggestions or ideas on what you use or works for you would be great!

TIA!

I have the PPB Boxy Backpack and like it. It can be used as a messanger type bag or backpack. They also have a larger version of it that might work better for cloth diapers.

  • I used a vera bradley baby bag up until a few months ago. It worked perfectly for us. Now I use a vera bradley backpack. It's a larger one so I can still stuff quite a few things in it and it's so much easier to get around. I didn't mind the baby bag though before because I usually had my single stroller with us every where we went that I could hang it on. Now I rarely bring a stroller so the backpack is more ideal.

  • My diaper bag was just a Carter's bag, it is not that awesome and I recently switched the the 31 Organizing Pack (which is only available as a hostess gift right now but I really like it). The thing that helped me most was to change how I organized things. Again, I like the 31 products, so i got two zipper pouches in two different prints, but you could just as easily do this with a Ziploc bag. I filled each one up with diapers, wipes, and anything I might need for just the one kid (diaper cream, or a snack pouch just in case, or formula). Then if I needed a diaper change, or I was only taking one kid with me, I could grab their specific bag out of my big diaper bag and know I had everything I needed right there. It really helped me cut down on all the extra "stuff" that ends up floating around my bag.

  • With number three on the way, I decided to buy a new bag... It is actually smaller than my old (very used and abused) bag, but so far I'm happy with it... It is the Skip Hop Bento. With two kids who need snacks anywhere we go, the built-in snack compartment (which can also just be used as more storage) is fantastic!

I just wanted to ask you though why you think you will need LESS for DD1 when she is 18 months old? She will most likely still be in diapers, her clothes will be bigger and she will need a sippy cup and snacks pretty much anywhere you go, amongst other things... I find that I currently use much more space for DS (30 months old) than I do for DD (14 months old).

I am hoping that DS will be out of diapers when number three arrives in September, because otherwise I'll be using two bags for sure, as all the diapers, wipes, creams, clothes, bottles, sippies, snacks, etc. will not fit in one bag for sure!

  • DS2 isn't here yet but I LOVE our Ju Ju Be BFF. It looks the same size on the outside as our other diaper bag, but holds SO much more! I love all the pockets, the separate mommy pocket, and most importantly the backpack straps! So much easier than over the shoulder and really comfortable too!

  • JJB Be Prepared!

ETA:  I also have a JJB BFF, but it is small.  I barely can fit everything for DD and myself in it and she's 20m.  But I will use it again once DD1 is PT.  But for 2 in diapers, the Be Prepared is great!

I have the BFF and Be Prepared (BP) and the BP is way too big for me to use most of the time. It's giant. I use my BFF for most outings unless we are going to be gone all day or for an overnight trip.  I think the best idea is to keep extras in your car and just put what you need for a couple hours in your diaper bag.
