So we have to go over to DH's grandparents for Mother's day and the house is disgusting. It smells (and by smells I mean stinks,) it isn't cleaned regularly, and I hate to let DS crawl around, but he will only let me (or anyone) hold him for so long before he gets annoyed and upset, plus he is a hefty boy.
suggestions on what to do?
1. Not going is not an option
2. I am going to tell DH that we are only staying for about an hour and then we are out of there--It's my first Mother's day and I would prefer to limit the depression and discomfort of his grandparents house ( he is aware of this and feels the same way).
3. Their hours is usually boiling hot (all year round) so I can't put him in long sleeves/pants.
I am at a loss! Please help!
Re: suggestions
I hope this doesn't sound insensitive, but he will probably be fine. It will more likely be more you cringing than him in actual harm's way. That said, if the exersaucer isn't an option, I'd just bring along those antibacterial wipes and discreetly wipe his hands routinely.
Also, if you have one of those play mats, that might also be an option to keep him on it with some toys.
Good luck -- I know the feeling but they're usually fine.
Thanks Ladies!
I didn't even think of the exersaucer or PNP (we almost never need to bring them with us, but then again DS hasn't been to his great-grandparents house since x-mas and he wasn't crawling then either so he didn't whine as much about being held).
Those are good options. I am by no means a germ freak. I know DS needs to be exposed to it to build up a tolerance, but some of the disgusting things include pet urine and feces that aren't regularly cleaned up and if it is "cleaned up" it is not good enough. When it comes time to sell the house, the best thing to do would be to level it and sell the land, that is how bad it is. I don't even take my shoes off when we go over there.--so with that in minds 'sucking it up' is not something I am comfortable with.
Thanks again!
He might let you hold him for longer than you think since he will be in a relatively unfamiliar environment. I know my DD is very curious and likes to explore our house and doesn't want to be held for long. But when she's in a new place, she tends to cling to me very closely.
I think the suggestions of playmat, PNP, and wipes all sound good, too!
