Sorry, this is NBR at all.
I'm doing this backwards, but we ordered a shed from Home Depot over the weekend, and it's just now occurring to me that maybe I should do some research on the company and it's products and services. The name of their contractor is Sheds USA - anyone have any experience with them?
The BBB gives them an A+ rating, which is good news. And I really couldn't find many bad reviews online about them, so I guess that's also good news. But I "know" and trust you guys, so I figured it was worth asking of anyone here had any experience.
They say in the installation prep page of their website that the shed site needs to be 3 feet away from any fences, trees, buildings, etc, and I'm hoping they will allow us to put it 1.5 feet off of our fence - what do you think are the chances they'll agree to that?
Of course I know that I probably should've hired someone local to build our shed, but it came down to convenience and affordability this time, so here we are. Thanks for any input you might have!
Re: NBR: Anyone ordered an installed shed from Home Depot?
Good luck!!
Thanks guys. I'm working on the building permit stuff, so that's all under control, and it doesn't look like my town requires a fence setback, so that's good news, but the fence company has it on their website, so I'm pretty sure it is an ease of access thing. I'm going to ask them about it when they call to do the survey and set up the installation date.
I was more interested in hearing about the quality of the sheds and the folks installing them, so I'm glad to hear a good review. Obviously, we walked around in them in the HD parking lot, but real world experience is always better, kwim?
Anyway, thanks!!
I had numerous problems with getting the correct permit from Home Depot (they pulled it themselves/had a subconstractor do it), so I hope your experience logisitically is better than mine. The subcontractor that came and installed it was less than ideal (was gone over 3 hours to get anchors that didn't get delivered) and he was irritated when I made him re-do a couple things before signing off on the paperwork, but it was fine overall. (The subcontractor that installed was slower and more whiney than I would have preferred, and I'm sure some of my irritatation at him was due to the prior permit screwups.)
The shed itself is great. Solidly built (we got the hurricane straps) and no issues so far, but it's been installed less than a year. We did hire a mason to do a stem wall foundation to cover up the support beams. It's wonderful to have and I hope you love yours!
Oh, I bet if you chat up the installer, they'll go closer to your fence than 3 feet since it's not a building permit issue. Maybe have a cooler with water and cokes out in the back yard for them. I find that goes a long way in getting cooperation from subcontractors.
Brilliant! Thanks for that idea, I will totally do it.
I just talked to them, and they said going closer to the fence is no problem, they just need about 18 inches to maneuver around back there. Yay! However, they can't even schedule our installation until we have our permit in hand, so that process needs to get speeded up a little, I guess! I figured as long as I had the permit before the installation date we'd be fine, but no.
great news! I'm glad they'll work with you. I hope the permit process is quick.
