Anyone up for a CD Check-In? It's been awhile since we've had one, let's get it going!

1. How's CDing going for you? Anything bad or good in particular?

2. What's your favorite brand? Has your favorite changed as your LO has grown?

3. Bought anything new recently?

4. What's your go-to nighttime solution?

5. Any questions for other moms or anything you want to add or brag about?

  • 1. How's CDing going for you? Anything bad or good in particular?

We're doing well.  We had an ammonia issue a few weeks ago, so I had to strip my entire stash, what a pain. The problem seems to have gotten better, but I may just have to strip every once in awhile since we have pretty hard water.

    2. What's your favorite brand? Has your favorite changed as your LO has grown?

BumGenius 4.0 is our go-to diaper, but the Freetimes are great too. I just got a Grovia AIO and I really like that as well, but I'm pretty maxed out on diapers already. We really liked prefolds when she was tiny they never get used anymore.

    3. Bought anything new recently?

I've bought waaaay too much recently. I got the b5g1 BumGenius deal over earth day, then 5 seconds. Too good of a deal to pass up! I also got 2 Rumparooz, a Grovia, Swaddlebees Simplex, and 2 Blueberries from Kelly's Closet during Earth Day weekend. I am officially cut off from buying diapers.

    4. What's your go-to nighttime solution?

We use a BG 4.0 stuffed with the large BG insert and a Thirsties hemp insert. It's pretty full in the morning, but no leaks!

    5. Any questions for other moms or anything you want to add or brag about?

Anyone else have hard water and front-loading HE machine? What kind of detergent do you use? I currently use Charlie's but I think I need to switch.

I'm still loving it, especially today when my sister was complaining about her younger son's giant poosplosion that ended up all over his back, swing & my sister's arm! Haven't had that happen...

    2. What's your favorite brand? Has your favorite changed as your LO has grown?

    BG4.0 for sure

    3. Bought anything new recently?

I bought an iPlay swim diaper today at Target

    4. What's your go-to nighttime solution?

BG4.0 regular insert + a thin hemp insert or the nb insert. She still wakes to eat at night a couple times so she really only ever goes about 6 hours in the same diaper.

We have hard water and a front loader too.  I use Rockin' Green hard water formula and I haven't had any problems at all.  I just start with a pre-wash (no soap), a hot wash, and an extra rinse.  Only need a tablespoon of the soap and everything comes out clean!

we use Tide and have yet to have any stink or repelling issues...in fact DS's daycare commented on how his diapers DON'T stink though the other CDs there do have a lingering smell.

  • DS is a heavy soaker at nighttime. He wakes every four hours and I have to change his diaper and pj's each time because of leaking. I've stuffed his diaper so full of inserts (including hemp) that he can hardly move his legs, I've tried disposables at night, and nothing seems to work. I'm really concerned since I know it will only get worse as he gets older.

Have you considered using fitteds?   I use these with a cover and love them.  I haven't had any leaks: https://www.totsbots.com/product/bamboozles/sunset-bamboozle-stretch/

You can also add another insert between the fitted and the cover.

  •  1. How's CDing going for you? Anything bad or good in particular? It's been a bit of a struggle, my DS has very sensitive skin so we've battled diaper rash when he's in cloth as he's sensitive to the wetness.  Good barrier cream we use is coconut oil, seems to help keep him dry.2. What's your favorite brand? Has your favorite changed as your LO has grown?  BG4.0, good thing because it's the only brand we bought.3. Bought anything new recently?   Hemp inserts with fleece, I put it against his bum when I think he may be beginning to get diaper rash, hemp really absorbs and the fleece stays dryer.4. What's your go-to nighttime solution? We still are using disposables for nighttime, I'm to chicken to use cloth. 5. Any questions for other moms or anything you want to add or brag about? Wondering if anyone else has issues with diaper rash with their little ones and if you have any suggestions for using CD and keeping diaper rash away?

  • 1. How's CDing going for you? Anything bad or good in particular?  Good!  Poo is sooooo different (worse) this time around.  I used to pooh-pooh (ha!) people when they were like WHAT do you do with the poop?!  Now?  I get it.  Not fun.  Hopefully this will evolve.

    2. What's your favorite brand? Has your favorite changed as your LO has grown?  I'm a BG lover.  Nope.

    3. Bought anything new recently?  Girly dipes!  I love them way too much.

    4. What's your go-to nighttime solution?  We're still at a pocket stuffed with the one-size MF insert + doubler.

Yikes!  That's a lot of wetting.

This may be a dumb question, but with your extra nighttime stuffing, are you sure it's not creating gaps at the legs?

Fitteds + wool is often recommended for heavy wetters, especially at night.  We tried it and DS still wet out of it.  We finally ended up with a triple stuffed (one-size MF insert + 2 large  hemparoos) to keep him leak-free overnight.  You do have to be careful though because overstuffing can cause gaps.  You may already be looking for this though :)

What about adding a wool cover over his diaper to keep it from leaking on his PJs?  Some brands also sell diapers specifically geared towards nighttime/heavy wetters.  I don't know of any off the top of my head, nor do I have any experience with them.  Might be something to look into though.

  • 1.. How's CDing going for you? Anything bad or good in particular?
I just started about a month and a half ago and so far so good! I love how cute they are and most of all I love not using disposables!
    2. What's your favorite brand? Has your favorite changed as your LO has grown? Bum Genius 4.0. I basically only use those with a few Fuzzibuns thrown in. But BG is definitely my fave and works best!
    3. Bought anything new recently?
I stocked up during the buy 5 get 1 free BG sale. I got some cute patterns including Irwin and Albert. They are kinda boyish for DD but I like them and I figure if in have a boy next I need some masculineish diapers to pass down!
    4. Nighttime we use Bum Genius freetimes primarily at night but if they are in the wash we use a 4.0 with the infant insert as a doubler.
    5. Any questions for other moms or anything you want to add or brag about?
Not really, except does anyone know the best time to move up snaps is? Are the guidelines on the package correct usually or just go by the best fit?

We moved up a row at about 4 months and 15 lbs. I went by fit, I don't know what the guidelines say. The diapers (we use mostly bg 4.0) seemed to fit too low on her tummy and on her thighs, they seemed like they were sitting halfway between her knee and her hip. Once we moved up they seemed to fit properly around her chubby thighs. Give it a try and see if it works.

  • 1. It's going great. We absolutely love it. We had a bumpy patch with some amonia buildup (I have hard well water and was using homemade detergent that didn't cut it). We switched to tide powder and don't have any issues.

    2. Bumgenius 4.0 is my favorite. We also have freetimes (they seem to be getting pilly, which is only a cosmetic issue but I still don't like it), flips (sometimes have leaks around legs which happens less often if I add the BG infant insert w/ flip stay dry), and a couple of fuzzibuns (last choice, nice and slim but not as absorbent).

    3. Bought 6 more 4.0s during buy 5 get 1 sale... then a couple days later bought 2 4.0s on seconds sale.

    4. BG freetime is great at night but adding the infant insert to BG 4.0 or flip seems to work. Haven't had a nighttime leak in a long time, but LO does get changed 1x in the middle of the night during feeding.

    5. I LOVE the limited ed "oops" color from BG. It is so cute.

Every baby is different.  DS has always had this tiny little heiny and no baby chub so he was waaaay behind on moving up in sizes.  He was on the middle rise for the longest time!

Basically you'll know it's time when you start having some problems.  You may notice that they're leaving marks on their legs or you might have leaks with wet or dirties or the fit may just be off.  Keep the poundage guidelines in mind, but basically just watch the fit.  If you move it up too soon you'll end up with leaks so it's not like it's a huge deal to try it out and see what happens.
