Crown Ob/gyn Quincy

Hi All, I was wondering if anyone here has experience with Crown OB in Quincy. I'm 20 weeks, and have had three visits with them so far - one with the NP, and with two different doctors. Overall, I haven't been impressed and was wondering if maybe it has gotten better for other people as you're further along? I have hypothyroidism, and my levels were really bad when I found out I was pregnant, but they haven't done any monitoring at all, and have said that as long as my endo is taking care of it, they don't need to. I love my endo and trust him 100% but it worries me that they're not getting the whole picture. My appointments with the doctors have also always been very in and out. Pee in a cup, weight, blood pressure, heartbeat, and done. They haven't asked me any questions about my pregnancy or lifestyle (except "has the baby moved yet?" at 18 weeks). Besides my thyroid, I've had a very healthy pregnancy - no m.s. or anything - so I'm a little nervous about switching at this point. I'd love to hear about other people's experiences, especially if you have switched - is it hard to find a new doc halfway through? I think if I switch, I would try to find a midwife, but I do want to deliver at South Shore Hospital and many of the midwives I've found associated with the hospital are pretty far away from my home. Any advice or information would be appreciated!!

Re: Crown Ob/gyn Quincy

  • I've heard wonderful things about South Shore maternity, I would call the hospital and see if they can set you up with a doctor/midwife.  I'm not going to South Shore, but I just called my hospital up and had them assign me a doctor because I didn't have any recommendations to go off of and I've been very happy.

  • I use cc for my primary care. Dr. Trang, and I have been very happy with her. I don't have exp. with the OBGYN side of the practice. I use a dr. assoc. with Brigham's.

I have to say, we started w/cc pediatrics and left there. Not a great exp. Hope some of this helps.

    Good luck!

  • Thanks Tally that's a good idea. I started at CC due to a rec from my primary care, but I think contacting the hospital directly would be really helpful.
  • Thanks lady, seems like CC is very hit or miss. Good to know about pediatrics since we'll have to start thinking about that soon as well!
  • I hate them. They made so many mistakes with me and hurt me in exams. I will never go to them

  • I had a great experience with them!! Dr Shakr delivered my baby at ssh and the staff there was fantastic as well.  May I ask who you saw?  I see Dr Wessman for my regular ob appt's and she is great.

  • Hi Maria, I've seen Dr Champion (horrible experience) and Dr Leeman. I  have an appointment with Dr Shakr in a couple of weeks, and I'm hoping it goes well - he actually delivered me and my sister! My parents both loved him, so I'm hoping that if he's good I'll be able to continue seeing him for the rest of the pregnancy.
  • Dr Shakr is great like I said he delivered my son Benjamin.  Dr Wessman is also great there.  I never saw Dr Leeman but I have seen Dr Champion and I never had an issue with him (I only saw him twice I think) I hope you like Dr Shakr and good luck!!

  • I'm 30 weeks and go there as well. I love Dr. Shakr! I've also liked Dr. Lacy. However, I was not thrilled with my appts with Dr. Leeman or Dr. Champion. Good luck!
  • I'm also with Crown OB, again, mostly because I really like South Shore Hospital, and, well, they were there! Haven't been wowed by the practice in general, everyone seems to be very in and out, I straight out asked how much face time you get with a doctor per visit, it's eight minutes. My OB is Dr Champion, who I do like mostly because he will give me more than the minimum time to ask questions, although I can also see that he wouldn't be for everyone. I've also seen Dr Wessman who I did not like in the slightest and instantly switched from, and Dr Saliba, who I thought was awesome.

Honestly, I haven't switched because it seems like too much hassle, and I'm very low risk. That being said, if I did get a strong recommendation from someone, like a midwife at South Shore, I think I would do it. I'm an FTM, thousands of miles away from my family, and I only know one other person in the state who's had a baby, I really want a doctor who will take the time to talk about what's going on, what I can expect, and what I want for my experience. I don't think I'm going to get that at Crown OB, but I don't know if I would be able to get it anywhere else either.

Good luck, and if you find someone, let us know!

  • I am chiming in a little late here but better late then never. I went to Crown OB GYN in Quincy for two visits and they totally screwed up every single thing!  They seriously did not get one thing right! I mean the best thing I can say about them is they were pretty nice and the office itself was really nice. At first they messed up so much but I didn't want to switch because it seemed like a pain but then I was thinking about how having a baby is the biggest medical event I have ever had in my life (so far).  Do I really want to go to these people that screw up even the most basic things?  I had picked them because I wanted to deliver at South Shore Hospital.  I have since switched to South Shore Women's health in Whitman but they also have offices in Weymouth and Plymouth. I am much happier there and am glad I switched. I believe the Weymouth office actually has extended hours too.
  • I know this is a while after this was posted. was just curious if anyone has met the midwives at crown ob. I was thinking of switching from Harvard vanguard to crown since I'd like to deliver at southshore hospital however it needs to be with a midwife. am 27 wks.
  • I guess I am late to this board, but I have gone to one of their "meet the midwives" event, and the midwives all sound wonderful and caring. I am quite doubtful of the OBGYNs on the other hand. While I was picking my OB, i had seen Dr. Blair and disliked her. She was rushing me, avoiding my questions, and not assuring me of my anxiousness regarding delivery.
