Pain killers

How long did you take the heavy stuff? Not Motrin or Tylenol?

I just had my RCS on Monday and told nurse I didn't want them yesterday afternoon. I feel so much better. The oxy and Percocet were making me way too groggy and loopy. They are acting like I'm crazy for not needing them. I'm still taking the Motrin and asked for some extra strength Tylenol.  So far, I'm ok.

Anyone else stop taking them early?

Re: Pain killers

  • I need them for a few weeks, but I had serious incision issues.

  • I didn't need them really after a couple days.  I did keep a few pills at home.  I had one or two rough patches that I can remember, but I didn't really need anything.

I only took Tylenol and Motrin after my RCS once I was off the IV.  Not that I didn't want anything stronger, but I found out after my first c/s that Percocet gives me hives, so I didn't take it at all after my second one.  And I was pretty much fine.

  • I only took ibuprofen once they stopped my IV.

  • I took them for two days and switched to the motrin/tylenol every two hours.  I felt so out of sorts on them that I had to get off of them.  The groggy/loopy feeling was WAY too much.

    I was fine without.

  • Thanks, ladies! I couldn't handle that crazy feeling anymore. I felt like I was crawling out of skin
  • I believe I had morphine in my IV during surgery and that's the only narcotics I got. I got tylenol and naproxen (aleve) in the hospital and continued to take tylenol and ibuprofen at home.

You are not alone.  I didn't take the hard stuff either because I don't like what it does to me.  The nurses made me feel like I was crazy as well.  Just stick to your guns and stay with the Tylenol and Motrin.

  • I didn't take them either. I don't like how I feel on pain meds

  • I found out that I had a bad reaction to percs. I was picture framing and acting nuts, so they gave me hydrocodone and I stopped taking them like 2 or 3 days after coming home. I honestly just forgot, and I wasn't really in pain to remind me to take them.
  • They had me on Norco and Motrin during my stay. I only used Motrin while at home.

  • After the first day, I took an oxy at night only for the first few nights because getting in and out of bed hurt so much.  Other than that, I pretty much just stuck to te ibuprofen.

  • Just a couple of days. Ibuprofen seemed to work much better for me anyway.

  • I think I stopped mine after a week maybe.  I don't remember exactly.

  • I didn't take anything heavy except ibuprofen after leaving the hospital. It's all I needed- worked like a charm. I don't like the way the heavy stuff makes me feel and I wasn't comfortable with that, so I opted out of it. I took the larger dose of ibuprofen for close to a week and then felt good enough to go without.

Never took them.  I had drugs during the surgery and in recovery room (for 2hrs) but after that just had Tylenol and motrin.  I had enough drugs leading up to and during delivery and was groggy and out of it.  It was painful but not enough to opt in for the extra drugs.

  • I was on them the entire time in the hospital.  I was also getting shots of Demerol (had a pinched nerve in my incision and it felt like it was being ripped open), that made me WAY out of it, I honestly couldn't remember the names we chose for our twins.  I HATED that, but it made the pain MUCH more manageable.  I didn't feel that the morphine in my IV helped.  Once the spinal wore off (about 3.5 hours later) I was really feeling some pain.
