What vitamins does your dr have you taking?

I don't know if this is has been covered yet or not, but just wondering what your doctor is wanting you to take.

My midwife has me taking Calcium (which isn't too hard since I chew a couple chocolate viactiv a day), PNV (obviously), D3, and a probiotic. I didn't really question it, because I figure she knows what I need based off of my diet.

I am curious if any of your dr/midwife's are having you take a boat load of pills everyday?

I also only take a PNV. I eat a varied diet, and even with nausea I am trying to make sure I eat well, so I am not really worried about vitamins. I mostly take it for the folic acid.

  • I take a PNV, b12, b-complex, D vitamin & calcium
  • I take a prenatal with DHA, 4mg of folic acid 2mg in the morning and 2mg in the evening and 1000mg of fish oil daily, suggested by my OB.
  • Just vitamin d and folic acid. I can't take a prenatal as they mess with my tum.
  • Prenatal, multivitamin, omega 3 with DHA, B12, D3, biotin and calcium
  • I take a prenatal, DHA, B6, magnesium and vitamin C.  I take the vitamin C because I am terrified of getting sick while pregnant from my germy toddler.  I have no idea if it really helps but even if it just has the placebo effect I will continue to take it.
  • OB has me taking a Prenatal with DHA

Prenatal only. She had me stop the DHA since recent studies haven't borne out the initial findings of a benefit.
  • Just a PNV.

PNV once per day and vitamin D twice per day.  At my first appointment my vitamin D levels were tested and they were extremely low so my OB had me start taking them along with my PNV.

  • Prescription prenatal that has a bunch of stuff all mixed in folic acid, DHA, biotin, b vitamins, and others
  • the nurse I saw last week made me stop most of my vitamins in case of vitamin toxicity. Before I took B, C, D, calcium, multi, iron and selenium. Fe is a prescription and D was recommended by my PCP but an OTC vitamin.

Now I'm on PNV and D, she told me not to take calcium but my mom had osteoporosis at 50 so I'm taking it at night (PNV at breakfast) and I need to ask my dr next week about my Fe because I'm feeling very anemic lately and I doubt the nurse's statement that it's too much Fe for me. I used to be on 150mg/day so I seriously doubt my PNVs have more than that... I need to ask the pharmacist what's in these PNV because they're a prescription and I don't have the detailed info.

Edit: after reading what everyone else is on, I'm definitely talking to my dr about whether I need to have stopped most of my vitamins. The Ca and Fe are the ones I'm most concerned about having stopped. You just pee out Ca anyway, right?
