2nd Trimester

arguing with my hormones /vent

So: I have a coworker two nights a week who quite literally SLEEPS a majority of the night. I have pictures to prove the fact... and no, I'm not exaggerating. we get in at 10:30, 2nd shift leaves at 11, and she's asleep by 11:30. She proceeds to sleep the night away until 5:30 (unless I open the door, that wakes her). She then works from 5:30 to 7, doing what she should have done all night.

I know WHY she does it: her husband will NOT help her with their children. That is not his job, that's a woman's job. So she doesn't get sleep at home. So, until recently I've shrugged it off, whatever... she's making her own bed if her job doesn't get done... But as the pregnancy goes along, I am getting more and more upset that she sleeps.

Do you work 3rd shift? Is that hard being pregnant? I'd be upset too in your situation. I mean you are working hard and pregnant with twins while she sleeps all night!

  • What exactly is it that you do for a living? I know if I slept through a shift the lack of work completed would speak for itself.

  • How can she do that? What's the job that she can sleep the whole night? Isn't she accountable for some sort of productivity? I'd have been annoyed way before now. You're a very understanding person!

  • That is a womans job???
  • Does she get all her work completed when she is awake? Sounds like she isn't very busy. How frustrating.

  • Is that impacting you? As in do you have to cover her work because she's sleeping? If not, as hard as it is!, I would ignore it. Her lack of work will eventually be caught.

this is why I have ignored it so long. We have set tasks, so I never touch what she does on the days she's there. It's easy for the bosses to see who did what, by our checklists.
I just don't know how she hasn't been caught yet!

Oh I agree, and I've said similar to get before, but I guess it's a cultural thing... So I let it be.

It annoys the snot out of me that I bust my butt and other co-workers are so flakey, but never get called out. Or if they do, they get better for like a day or two.

  • I think I would punch a guy who said it is womans work....just saying.

What do you do where your co worker can sleep at work? Are you they hiring?:)

Sorry about the frustrating situation. I am torn if I would say something or let it go, maybe I would say something to the coworker first...voice your frustration.

I would let it go unless it means you must do more work. If it's not affecting your position don't bother getting involved.

  • If the kids are her job then maybe her husband should do his better so she's not wasting your employers time.
