Ugly bedtime

Usually LO goes down just fine or needs one extra snuggle after going Down. And lately has even been STTN. But the last two nights have sucked as far as getting him down. Last night it took an hour. Tonight was the same plus another 2 ounces!!! So he ate 10 freakin ounces before bed. He was hysterical. I Checked his diaper, his whole body, temperature, gums... Nothing! I wonder if he's going through some kind of growth spurt or something because he slept some more over the last few days too. But omg I just rocked him and cried. An ugly cry! And I yelled at DH Which made things worse. Bad bad start. Anyone else going through, or go through a rough patch at 5.5 months?

Re: Ugly bedtime

  • We didn't have trouble going to sleep, but about a week ago Em woke up every hour all night, two nights in a row. The third night was rough too but not as bad. Then things went back to normal.

We had a few rough nights right before LOs teeth popped. No fever, gums looked maybe a little swollen but not much different than they had been for weeks... He just seemed uncomfortable. A little comfort-feeding, some extra snuggles, and a dose of Tylenol/teething gel as a last resort and he was back to his happy, sleepy self as soon as those sharp little things poked through. Maybe that's it?

Tonight his issue is gas. Apparently his little belly can't handle it when I eat asparagus :(

Hope you both get some sleep tonight!

This exactly. Lasted for about 3-4 days and he finally "reset" himself. Last couple of nights have been better.

Sorry you are having a rough night. Hopefully it is a growth spurt and things will return to normal soon.

  • Yes, we were going through a really rough patch around then. Actually, it would probably be more accurate to say things had gotten progressively worse. He used to be a good sleeper, but that started to change and by that point it would take hours to get him to finally go down for the night.

We decided to do the Ferber method, and it really helped. I used to think I would never be able to let him cry, but the graduated steps made it easier and overall resulted in far less crying. I really recommend it.

Right now we start with 10 minutes, then 15 but never more than that so far. We do pick up and rock. He usually has no problem and can even be put down awake and get to sleep on his own. But the last few nights have been rough. If things get progressively worse then we will have to do that.

Developmental age N is right at 5.5 months and his sleep lately has not been good. He was previously STTN. He goes down ok at bedtime, but is up several times in the night. Usually he nurses and goes right back down, but the past couple of nights he cries and fusses. He did have a low grade temp, but no other symptoms. I was thinking maybe teething or growth spurt. Whatever it is, I hope it passes soon!

Sorry you're having rough nights.  I've found that when W gets super fidgety and cranky around bedtime, she just wants to be put down. Literally. Like, leave me alone, I want to go to sleep. 9 times out of 10, she'll roll to her side and be out.

Asa is the same way most of the time.
