Suggestions for car seats

Hello! I am going to be a first time mother (14 weeks & 4 days along) and I have been looking at car seats. Just wondering from other mothers experience's which car seats would you recommend for an infant?? I was leaning toward the Graco Snugride 35 do anyone have any input on this brand?
We do drive a Honda civic 4 door, wondering if it will fit well. Any suggestions are welcomed :-) thanks!

Re: Suggestions for car seats

  • I have this car seat and love it!  Easy to install, great sunshade and I like the high height limit.

I had mine in a Chevy Cavalier and it fit well, so I am sure it will fit in the Honda.

Have you looked at the new Graco Click Connect 35?  Same height and weight limits, but it is lighter and a little bit more compact.  The LX version has a no re-thread harness (you don't have to take the harness apart to move the straps up and down through the slats)

  • I chose the Safety 1st OnBoard Air 35 this time. I really love the seat. It has an awesome newborn insert that works so much better for head support than anything else I've ever used. It also has a 32" height limit, which was important for me because I tend to have tall babies.

I had a Graco Snugride 22 for DD1 and DD2. It's a good basic carseat. I tried the Snugride 35 and OnBoard Air in store and liked the OnBoard much better.

  • I would definitely make sure the graco 35 fits in your car, it seems really large compared to other carseats. I wouldn't worry about getting the biggest infant seat, most parents move baby to a convertible well before the maximums of the infant car seat.

I have a chicco keyfit and love it. So easy to use.

This.  We actually tried both seats in my DHs BMW 328XI which is similar in size to your Civic, the OnBoard Air 35 air fit better.  I also liked the handle and the fabric on it better as well.  The other seat that fit well in the BMW was the Maxi Cosi Mico, but it actually didn't have all of the features of the OnBoard Air 35.  That may be another option for your Civic.

  • I have and love the Graco Snugride 35, but it is one of the bigger infant seats out there so I would make sure it fits in your car first.  It is very easy to install and use, very sturdy, I feel like LO is very safe in it.  It is also very heavy, so now that LO is older we dont often take it in and out of the car.

I have and love the Safety 1st Onboard Air.  Mine is only for 22lbs...but I had no desire to carry her around in the car seat after 20lbs so will be switching to a convertible rear facing seat instead.  Since I didn't want to carry a 20plus pound baby in a 10plus pound car seat it made more sense to get the smaller seat.

We spent a ton of time comparing seats online and in stores and found this one to be a really comfy seat and has great safety features.  I especially like that is it a very deep seat with great side protection.

As common as the Graco Snug rides tend to be...they all looked cheapy and uncomfortable compared to the Onboard Air.

  • Thank you everyone for the input! A lot to consider. The boyfriend will be off work this coming weekend so we will shop around a bit. I bit the best bet would be to check the ones everyone suggested out first hand. Thanks again!
