My husband and I are currently TTC... but we are interested in the costs of a Nanny. I think we would prefer a live out Nanny who would work approx. 40 hours a week. I know rates must vary around the country but I would appreciate any input.
I have nannied for several families through my college career and with my experience 6+ years, college coursework in education and references I would not work for under $12.00 (midwest area). I will say that if you do hire a nanny I would consider going through an agency versus looking on your own. You will pay up front but the quality of applicants should be higher than your local newspaper. Also many agencies require their nannies to be CPR/First Aid certified. They also do a lot of the grunt work such as check references and backgrounds for you. Any added perks have also been nice as well, such as being able to do laundry at the house, memberships to fitness center if you belong (most employers can put someone additional on their membership for as little as $15.00 a month and it was always a huge perk). Overall, you get what you pay for and the more appreciated I felt the better job I did. Which is typical for any job, but somehow I think people forget that what nannies do is incredibly important!

I suggest looking on your local craigslist board to get an idea of rates in your area. When we were looking for a nanny, there were many who posted on our local childcare board and many of them included their rates in their posting.
We found that in our area it was from $12 - $15 per hour for one child.
Same here...$12-$15 an hour. I was not expecting things like the perks...Food (bagels, waffles, lunch meat etc) and transporation costs. I live right outside NYC and most nannies get $$ for the subway.
I do have my nanny on a flat rate though so on average we pay $14 and hour.
