At our 9 month check up, the pediatrician recommended getting rid of bottles completely and giving milk in a sippy. He gets pumped milk a few evenings a week when I'm out. We tried that once, but he spilled too much. We found he has better control over a straw cup, so we do milk in the straw cup, water in the sippy. It was the right time for him as he was just starting to get frustrated with the slow flow nipple on the bottles and I had no intention of getting faster nipples at this stage in the game.
DS3 only gets 1 bottle a day before bed. At breakfast and lunch he gets sippies of milk/formula and at snack he gets water. He'll be losing that last bottle a week or so before he turns 1..
