Did your baby start pooping a lot less around 5-6 weeks? DD used to poop 8-10 times a day, and now it's just once or twice. Is this normal or could she be constipated? She seems to be grunting a lot.

Mine is. She used to poop 12+ times a day. Now at 8 weeks she has a few diaper changes where there is no poop. She does grunt a ton...but she always grunted a ton so can't tell if it's more or not!!

Unless you notice a big difference in the consistency and she is uncomfortable I would just assume her bowels are maturing!

At about 4 to 5 weeks, both of mine went from pooping several times a day to once every couple of days. They both do some grunting too, but the consistency of their poop hasn't changed. The pedi said that is normal for breastfeed babies.

I have a 9 week old and he did stop pooping as much around that time. Also he grunts a lot as well. Not always for pooping. I think if your LO is going once or twice a day she is still doing well.(not constipated) unless they are more solid stools that are difficult for her to pass.

For example my LO was constipated last week. A pebble of poop would get stuck in his little but or if it did come out we had to help him by holding up his legs and pushing them back towards his chest. He would cry while pooping. He was miserable. The stool was solid for an infant.

So I think as long as your LO's poop is still soft and mushy or semi wet(I have no other way to describe it) she is good to go. I would be concerned if it's more than 3 days with no BM. Or if her BM becomes solid and difficult to pass.

My five week old poops about every three days and it is about the consistency of frozen yogurt. Im pretty sure as long as it's not hard or pellet-like then the baby isn't constipated. The newborn guide I got from the hospital said babies can poop anywhere from 7 times a day to once every 7 days and it be normal and that it starts spacing out eventually.

I would say it was 6 weeks that it became about once a day.. I almost wish it was back to multiple times a day because she keeps blowing out her diaper when she does poop..

I don't remember when it happened, but he does poop less now. Maybe 3-4 a day compared to 9 or 10?

Yes! I was just telling my mom this today. DD used to poop constantly but now she'll have one large poopy diaper and maybe 2 or 3 "sharts" a day. The rest are all pee. That one poopy diaper is a pain to change though, sometimes she really stinks!

We have started replacing 1-2 feedings a day with formula as I try to wean hEr off the boob before going back to work so that could be part of the change.

Perfectly normal. She is only constipated if hard pellets are coming out of her bum instead of the loose, yellow, seedy stuff. BF babies can poop anywhere from once a week to once an hour and it's all normal.

Mine is definitely slowing down in the poo department...I think we are around twice a day.

My LO has definitely slowed down in that department as well. I was worried and took her to the doctor, but he said DD was ok.
