Trouble TTC

TTC Frustrations

Hi - I am new to this board, but needed an area to express my frustrations with ttc (i think my husband is getting sick of me talking about it).

I went off the pill in October of 2012 after being on it for 15+ years.  I went 6 months without getting a period so my doctor put me on a progesterone pill for five days to "kick-start" a period.  Nothing happened.  She then put me on Apri to help regulate my cycle.  I finally got my period a week before my sugar pills and they told me to stop taking the pill so that I could hopefully bring on ovulation.  I ended up having my period for a whole week - it was light, but it lasted a week.

My doctor told me to start an ovulation test on day 9 to try and track ovulation.  I am on day 13 with no surge detected yet.

My questions and frustrations are more around the unknown.  Is this normal?  Will I even get my period "regularly" after the apri?  Should I even be testing for ovulation or am I setting myself up for a dissapointment?

Sorry - just needed a place to get some advice on what to do or if there are any other things I could try to get my period/ovualtion regulated.

Well...  I can't speak to what may or may not happen with your body.   I can tell you that "normal" is basically defined as a regular cycle of 26-35 days.... so if you're going 6 months without a period I'd definitely be pushing your doc for a workup.

Honestly - I think the first thing you need to do is get a sense of your own cycles and what's going on with your body.  I recommend the book "Taking Charge of your Fertility" as a place to start - but start tracking your temps and ovulation so that you know what's going on.

Otherwise - you've been TTC for 7 months, which is hard - believe me, I know.  It's super frustrating when you want to get going and it's just not happening, or you are faced with a ton of roadblocks in the form of IF-related diagnoses.... but you may get more relevant information for you via the Trying to get Pregnant board, as most of the women on this board have been TTC for 12+ months, are seeing an RE, and/or have an Infertility related diagnosis already.

Agree with what everyone else said.  And it sounds like you are starting to get your body on the right track now.  But I was just going to say that if your cycles still seem out of whack in a few months, you may be able to get in to see an RE a little before the 12 month mark.  It doesn't sound like it's necessary, but if you are still very worried in 3 months or so, it may give you peace of mind to see an RE and just get the initial blood work done.
