HSG too close to ovulation?

I had my HSG yesterday and everything looked clear, but now I'm concerned it might have been too close to ovulation. I noticed EWCM today, which means if this is a typical cycle for me I should ovulate on Sunday/Monday. I know they say the test can sometimes increase fertility so we're going to take advantage this weekend, but I think someone on here mentioned if it's too close to ovulation the dye can actually clear away the follicles, too.

I'm certainly not pinning my hopes on conceiving naturally this cycle and we'll try no matter what, but I'm really hoping the test didn't completely ruin our chances.

Edited to add: Yesterday was CD13, the latest my RE will do the HSG. I usually ovulate between CD15-19, sometimes later. But, of course, this would be an earlier month because that's just my luck!

Re: HSG too close to ovulation?

  • i think they are usually scheduled at the beginning of your cycle to prevent an interference. I hadn't heard about it clearing away the follicles, so i'm sorry i can't help. But just wanted to say good luck!

  • I don't see how it can "clear away follicles" if they haven't been released.

I had my HSG done on CD10, and usually ovulate CD12-15. Just take advanatage of the situation and hope for the best.

    Good luck.

  • Thanks! We definitely will. :)

  • I agree with pp.  It would only "wash away the follicle(s)" if they had been ovulated already.  I think based on your previous cycle CD13 would be too early for that.  Otherwise they wouldn't have done the HSG then.  I would just have some fun ALL weekend long and I think you'll be just fine!  Good luck!

    ?

    touche!?

  • I agree with all pp, and just wanted to add that I was told the HSG helps increase fertility for up to 3 months after the procedure.  Good luck & have fun! Wink

  • My doctor said NO TTC the month of HSG. ?Because it's an xray at your uterus, it's not a good idea.
IVF w/ ICSI #2 - fraternal twins born December 2010 at 36 weeks.
  • manatee, your dr. is incorrect. your x-ray is only for the few minutes you're on the table, then you're fine.
  • I'm in a similar situation - I had an HSG last Friday, CD10. I had blood drawn about 2 hours before the procedure. Then I had blood drawn on Monday and found that I had ovulated over the weekend. We did it every day over the weekend (including Friday cause I wasn't in much pain), and I had the same concern, that there would be some 'after effect' that would prevent conception, but like ppl said, if you hadn't ovulated yet how could there be? And since as of 2 hours before the procedure I hadn't, I think timing-wise I was ok...  We'll see what happens when I go for a beta on 12/22!
