I have been having a constant stabbing pain on the upper right side of my abdomen (right under my breast) since Saturday evening. It didn't start off too painful, I honestly thought I just overdid it that day and strained something. The pain got worse throughout Sunday, DH and I started to get worried. When the pain was still really bad Monday morning, we called my sister to come take care of DD and went to the hospital.
They monitored baby and she is perfectly fine (thank goodness) but after drawing blood, urine samples, a chest xray, and a nuclear imaging scan they couldn't find out what was causing my pain. I was wheeled back up to L&D, and the nurse asked me if I was still hurting and I said it was really bad. She told me that my tests say I'm fine so I needed to get dressed and go. I was so out of it at that point I just did what she said without asking any questions.
Today I can still barely move, and it hurts when I breathe too deeply. My next OB appointment is tomorrow and I hope that they can give me more answers then, or send me for more tests. I feel so stupid for not even asking if there was anything I could do for pain management (I've been using tylenol and hot/cold packs, but they don't help much). I just want to know whats going on, it's so frustrating still being in pain with no explanation why. I can't even pick DD up right now so she's staying with my grandparents until after my appointment tomorrow. I'm so thankful that baby is healthy but I feel so crappy and frustrated right now I keep breaking down into tears. I hope tomorrow is better...
Re: Hospital trip vent - baby is fine, but no answers
Your story sounds a lot like mine. Went to E.R. Sunday evening to come home with no answers (I was having severe pain in my back that radiated into my chest)! It seems to me that they should have offered you some sort of pain meds- they offered me a narcotic, but I refused it. I hope they can help you manage the pain. It's amazing what our bodies go through during pregnancy!!!!!!!!
The resident nurse mentioned that it could possibly be my gallbladder or a blood clot in my lungs, but I guess they ruled those out with the tests? They said they were going to do an ultrasound, but after the x-ray and nuclear imaging they sent me home without doing one.
My blood pressure has been normal my whole pregnancy. They didn't do a 24 hour urine test, but I have to pee in a cup every appointment to test for pre-e.
I really hope it is just a bruised rib, or baby pushing against something. The pain seems to be a little less this evening at least.
