Pikkolo vs Beco Gemini for Newborn?

I have an Ergo, which gets way too hot with the infant insert necessary for my 9 lb 8 weeks baby. We want to start taking her on easy hikes and so need another solution. From what ive read I like Pikkolo and Beco Gemini best. Does anyone have experience with either/both? how supportive are they for a newborn's head in the front, momfacing position?

I have a Gemini and love it. It is very supportive for LO's head. We got it when he was about a month old and used it then. I use a solly wrap more now since I'm in New Orleans where it's hot and I don't need the same type of support my Gemini gives, but if I were to use one for hiking I'd go with the Gemini.

  • I rarely see anything about Pikkolos on here.  We have one and LOVE it.  However, I will say that I didn't use it with either of my guys too early, and they chunked up really fast (so were definitely over 9lbs by the time I had them in it).  I don't see why it wouldn't work, but I can't give a testimony on how it works firsthand for newborns.  Awesome for babies/toddlers, though!

My son is tiny and I use my Gemini with him.  When he was really little (like 7 lbs) I would put an Aden and Anais blanket in there with him and tuck the excess on his sides so it helped keep him in the right position.  Now that he is 10 lbs, he fits fine without it.

  • Have you considered a light weight wrap like a bali breeze? That is what I used last summer.

I hated the ergo and am obsessed with my pikkolo. My LO has been it since she was 5 pounds! It was actually recommended to me because it works for well for petite babies.
