swaddling question

hello, my DS is five months old (today) and he still sleeps all swaddles up (not full body, he still has full range of motion with his legs and hips. just his arm are wrapped against his side).   but just today he has started rolling onto his side while sleeping.  im really nervouse that he will roll all the way over and wont be able to move because of the swaddle.  normally (during the day, unswaddled) he gets about ninty percent over, but his arm gets in the way and he doesnt totally make it over. but im afraid with his arm pinned to his side, he might.  now i know the obviouse answer is to stop swaddling him, BUT he has eczema on his face and will destroy his face if im not there to stop him.  i keep gloves on him but he pulls them off and then scratches his face so bad that he bleeds all over the place (had to stop blood from dripping into his eye today). and if by chance he doesnt pull off the gloves, he rubbs his face sooooooo much that his cheeks start seeping this wetness stuff.  i really dont know what to do.  please help me.  thanks in advance!

Re: swaddling question

  • Have you tried the sleep gowns? Most of them have the fabric you can pull over to cover the hand.

  • I bought my LO a sleep sack from ZipadeeZip to wean him from being swaddled b/c the daycare he is in does not allow it. We started him sleeping in it at 9 weeks which is really early, but he did fine. Also, I don't have to worry about him rolling over in it when the time comes. The sack encloses arms legs so that your baby won't be able to scratch his face.
  • We used a pair of clean socks to cover LO's hands at one point because the mittens on the sleep gowns didn't close over his hands.
