15 month checkup?

Anyone have their 15 month checkup yet?  What kinds of questions did your pedi ask?  Where should our LOs be at this point?  height/weight?

I'm always curious to see what other doctor's use as milestones at different ages.  It's also always fun to see what a difference in sizes our LOs are!  We have ours next week!

  • My drs office doesn't do a 15 month checkup, they didn't do a 9 moth either

Lucia is only having one because she was underweight at her 12 month appt, but I have heard of other doctors doing them. Ours isn't til the 23rsd.

We opted out of the 15 month checkup. My ped said it wasn't really necessary, since Aria has always gained weight well, and since she wouldn't be getting any more shots until 18 months.

  • We had ours on 4/30.  Caroline is 20.15 lbs and 29 inches.  She got 1 shot.  The doctor asked if she could say 3 words in the right context.  Could she walk backwards? Can she use a sippy?  She then went over summer safety things like sunscreen/sunglasses and safety in and around pools/water.

  • Ours is next week, she needs a couple shots and we have some random questions. They are:

Milk - Allison does not drink it...but drinks tons of water.  Any concerns there?

Food - She eats like a linebacker one day and almost nothing the next.  Do we need to try to even it out?

Sleep - tips on breaking the pacifier habit (our goal is to have it 100% gone before we go to Tampa in October)

What milestones are we looking for next.

    Lilypie - (JrNi)

    Lilypie - (y35Q)

  • I didn't really have any questions when we went for Elis. He discussed what his milestones should be, his speech development and food servings. He got the MMR and Chicken pox vaccination and now he's done until 4 years old.

wait, walk backwards??? For real?? That's some joke. K has finally started walking like a month ago. No way she would walk backwards. That seems like a weird milestone...

Walking backwards is a milestone? My DS can do it actually, but I really don't think that's the norm for this age. Heck, at this age, my DD hadn't even taken her first steps yet (she did that right at 16m).

Nolan had his 15th month last week.  He is 31 3/4 inches and 23 pounds 2 ounces. The pedi wanted to make sure he could use 3-5 words in context and use a sippy. My only concern was his new love for biting me, which the pedi didn't really have any good suggestions for.  She told me about a book, which I bought ("Teeth are not for Biting"), but it hasn't been that helpful.  Nolan is getting a tooth right now, so I think that is the cause for the biting, but it is still annoying!  My nephew is really language delayed (2 and barely any words) so I asked what I should expect to see over the upcoming months and when I should be concerned.  The pedi said he should have about 200 words by the time he is 2...I can 't wait for the "language explosion!"  It was a pretty uneventful appointment, but we go back at 18 months and then again at 24.
  • We had Addy's 15 month check up a few weeks ago.  She got two shots (can't remember which ones).  Dr. asked us if she could say 3-6 words, asked about how her sleeping is, asked about her food/drink intake, watched her walking, checked a few other things and that was about it.  She always goes over safety things too.  We asked about milk intake because Addy pretty much doesn't drink ANY- she will if we give her a bottle, but the dr. really wanted us to get rid of the bottles.  She wasn't concerned if she goes a while without drinking milk from the sippy as long as we are getting plenty of other dairy in her diet.  She can drink water and watered down juice just fine from the sippy.  Hopefully at some point she will drink more milk.  It was pretty uneventful compared to some of the other visits- maybe this is why some dr's don't do a 15 month check up.

  • We had ours yesterday.  Abby got one shot (and will get another at the 18mo visit).  We went over how she is eating, what skills she is doing, is she talking/how much is she talking, does she know any words, etc.  Pretty much the same stuff we talk about each time.  Pedi said she is right on track for everything.

  • We had ours three weeks ago and pedi asked if he could say five words, which he can. But understand they are more initial consonant sounds with little endings. For example he can point to a duck and say Duh or Donald Duck he says Dona duh. She didn't ask too many questions but it was more of a conversation of how things were going. I did mention my concern that he only had four teeth and she says that is fine. She was happy he was off the bottle and wasn't concerned that we moved him to a toddler bed.
For the person who asked about walking backwards. The pedi didn't ask but I happened to read about it as a milestone last week on a website. I was surprised but funny enough, DS randomly started doing it yesterday. I guess we can check that off the list.
I started keeping a list of words and things he can do for each month on my phone. It helps because I was anxious about our appt and always get frazzled when I speak with the dr and forget everything. It's fun to add things to the list and document development. Tonight I added that he shrugs his shoulders and tries to say I don't know but it sounds like blah blah blah blah.
