3rd Trimester

Due any day: should I be worried...?

So I'm due tomorrow, but because I've heard many 1st time moms are usually late, and I have a feeling about it, I don't think my little girl will be right on time! I've been sleeping pretty good until last night when I just COULD NOT get comfortable. I think I slept on and off around 4 hours and that's after I went and slept in an armchair--all the weight from baby was so uncomfortable--it was pressing into all my innards and she did NOT like it when I tried sleeping on my right side, which left only sleeping on my left and my hip kept going numb--plus I'm propped up on some pillows because I'm still having some heartburn.

SO---my question is this, should I be worried about her kicking so much? Like full on karate chops and jabs way up high into my ribs and side--which is unusual. Normally it'll just be one little foot stretch or a foot moving across my side, but I swear she was practicing river dance last night...I know they say if baby stops moving to be concerned because they could be in distress, but I wondered if the opposite could be true?

Re: Due any day: should I be worried...?

  • I would say active is good.  I'm sure you're going to OB tomorrow since it's your due date?  They'll probably put a plan of action in place for you.  For instance, my OB won't let me go past 7 days overdue b/c she believes the placenta starts to not work so she'd induce me.  Just check with your doc!

  • Yes--I'm going tomorrow, and my OB did tell me we'd be talking induction a week after due-date if nothing happens. I guess I'm just on red-alert and my husband is super-anxious so it makes me anxious in turn (HA!)

    Any tips for sleeping?

  • I probably can't give good sleeping tips b/c I struggle myself.  I cannot get comfortable as most of us on here probably are in the same boat.  I have TONS of pillows around me...3 under my head for heartburn reasons, one fat one between my legs b/c my hips hurt, a tiny one to prop my belly up against and one behind my back so I don't roll over.  Switching positions in the middle of the night takes 10 minutes, so I feel your pain!

  • My little guy has been moving a ton! I sometimes feel like I don't get a break from it, even though I love feeling and watching my belly move.

I asked the Dr. about this, and if I should be concerned if there was too much movement. She said no- only be concerned when there isn't movement at all. Lots of movement is perfectly fine!
