Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Opinions Please!

Hi Mommies! DH and I are ready to sleep train DS, he is 6.5 months old. But I will be travelling to Canada with LO for 3 weeks. My question is do we do a week of training before we leave? I have heard some stories of how sleep training went great, then they travelled and they had to start at square one when they got back. By the time we get home he'll be 7 months old. I just want to make sure that's not too late. FTM so I'm totally new to all this! Any advice is appreciated!! TIA!

Re: Opinions Please!

  • Are you going to be doing the sleep training while you are in Canada? Or do you have a lot of things going on which will require schedule adjustments? How will your sleeping arrangements be? Similar to what you are doing at home? My inclination is to tell you to wait.

  • I will have his play pen to put him to sleep in. We've just got him into his crib from his RnP for nighttime. So I wanted to try and stay somewhat similar to that. I'm just visiting its where I'm originally from. I don't mind doing it there, I will have support. But I'm the same as you my gut says maybe to wait. I just want to make sure that we don't wait too long/he gets too old. Its probably silly thoughts, but like I said, I'm new to this! Lol.
  • I think I would just wait. It might be more stressful on both of you to start and then have changes. He won't be too old when you get back.

  • If the trip is coming up soon, you should wait until you get back.  If you only get a week of sleep training in before you take the baby out of town for 3 weeks, you'll probably lose any progress you made and have to start over when you get back.  I would just wait until you get back.

    Agree with all of this.

  • Thanks everyone! That was my concern losing any progress. We've decided to wait, probably easier on everyone. Lol.
