I know there are a few of us on here, so I thought I'd post this here.
I had DS the whole day yesterday while my DH was away, so we were looking for things to do on what turned out to be a gorgeous Saturday.
While it's technically not in Chicago (just north in Skokie), we found the BEST playground park. It's called Oakton Park, and it's next to the Exploritorium (which is also an awesome indoor play place that you also should all check out for rainy days). The outdoor playground is huge, has a musical game thing, lots of good climbing places, etc. There is also a big water park attached that I have not checked out yet.
So Chicago peeps, what are your favorite spots for kids (classic or newly discovered)?

That looks awesome. How does your LO do with the drive out there?
DD pretty much hates being in the car, so we stay local-ish. We lived at Wells Park this weekend and love Thursday evenings in the Square once it warms up. We grab snacks at the farmers' market, then head to the concert.

DD does pretty well on the train, so I'm thinking Farm at the Zoo next time we have a nice weekend.

How weird...we were at Welles Park on Sunday! Love it there. Good ideas about the concert series (I love the gelato place right there) and the zoo. We're also already looking forward to Rib Fest south of the Square in early June. Last year DH ate ribs with DS in a carrier.
As for the drive to Oakton, it's almost a straight shot up Lincoln Ave from around the Welles Park area--maybe 15 minutes due north? DS is pretty fine in the car because he has a 20 minute ride to and from daycare every day.
I didn't realize it was that close. Good to know.
