meltdowns

My LO is 13 weeks yesterday. The last few days he is having major meltdowns. At first, it was right after feedings so I thought he was still hungry. He gets 5 oz every 3 to 4 hours so I upped it a few ml's. The meltdowns subsided, and I thought we were in the clear. Now, he is melting down when I try to rock him to sleep. I've tried shortening his awake periods to 1 hour but that isnt working. Nothing
else has changed or seems different, and he doesnt seem in pain. His meltdowns are about 30 minutes and he screams soo loud it sounds like I'm pulling his fingernails out.
Do you think this is a growth spurt? Should I be concerned or contact the ped? Any suggestions or ideas?

Re: meltdowns

  • It could be gas... Maybe try burping him more throughout the day not just after a meal and see if bicycling his legs helps. I'm reading "Calm the Crying" by Priscilla Dunstan and it made me think that might be what's troubling my LO when she has screaming fits. Haven't had a chance to try it yet myself, but I plan to!

There's also a clip of the author on Oprah that you can watch on YouTube. She shows examples of babies making the different types of cries, which I found helpful.

  • My DS had been like this the last two weeks. I had no idea what was going on but it just subsided. I think it was just a growth spurt.

  • LO went through something similar when he was fighting his naps. It subsided tho but try more frequent burping other than that it might just be a growth spurt or possibly teething.
