A baby monitor is really all I need to complete the 'necessary' stuff on my registry. I am SO TOTALLY lost! Reading all of the reviews...I don't want ANY of them! Hardly anyone has anything good to say.
We know that we don't feel the need for a video monitor. I can't justify the price when LO will be directly across the hallway. We need one that has 2 receivers.
Does anyone have any that they strongly recommend? Or strongly advise against? OR, does anyone feel the need to talk me into a video monitor?
TIA ladies! Happy Monday!
Re: Baby Monitor? Opinions please!!
The nursery is upstairs so I knew I wanted a video monitor for the convenience. Don't think it's s necessary thing, but it's within our means so we went for it.
We have a video monitor. (Summer Infant Best View)
We love that we can peak in on her when she makes a noise without having go into her room. (without risking getting caught.) We almost love it more now that she's a toddler and mobile. I can see if she's actually sleeping, if she's playing and if what she's doing is appropriate.
Honestly? Every one of my friends who swore they didn't need a video monitor ended up going out and buying a video monitor.

We do like it, though. I think people expect cell phone quality reception from a cheap walkie talkie.
We have never had a video monitor. Just couldn't justify the cost.
Eta. Our fisher price one has two receivers, and one transmitter with a night light in it. It can be plugged into the wall, and has batteries, so even if the power goes out we are covered. And LO isn't in the dark.

If you can do it, I'd say opt for the video monitor. I don't care how close baby is to your room - being able to see what they're doing in there is priceless. We have one of the Summer color handheld monitors - I can't tell which version anymore because ours is now 3 years old, but it's been an absolute lifesaver.
That being said, none of them are perfect. The Summer gets a lot of annoying interference. This sounds crazy, but we bought a cheapie audio monitor to use as well. At night, I have the Summer for video and the Philips Avent for audio. We barely need the audio anymore, but I still use the video every day.
For example, just today I had put him down for a nap when he started crying. Sometimes this just means he's really tired, so I usually let him cry it out for a few minutes. I checked the monitor just to make sure, and I can see that his shirt is half off and stuck around his arms.. I had to go in there and save him from himself. :-)
I always thought about getting a video monitor but just never felt the need. DS is 21 months and we've managed fine without one. We will be using it again with this LO.
I have a 3 level home, and live on about a 1/2 acre. I can be out in my garden with the receiver and it still works great. So I'm pretty happy with it.
This but I have the one with just 1 parent monitor. We've had it about a year for DD and love it!
