Showing

I am a few days away from being 20 weeks along. I am not showing at all except I look like I've been indulging in to many sweets. I feel just big all around in my face arms and at my back love handles if you will my clothes don't fit but maternity clothes don't either, still just too big. I weigh in normally at 127 but I was 139 at my last appointment. I know this is credited to my new found ice cream addiction and a little less exercise. I guess my real concern is I'm getting impatient waiting for my bump and get out of the oh she got fat phase. Feels like its never coming!

Re: Showing

  • Aww I totally understand. I hate the fat phase! If you wear the right size maternity clothes pants at least, they should fit. Wearing maternity clothes makes you look more pregnant. That's my trick.

  • People who know me well can tell i'm showing, but when i go into work (i work from home, so i don't see them often) no one seems to have noticed (and i haven't told them yet; i'm quitting before then, so it doesn't affect them).  A lot of women seem to go from looking "sort of pregnant" to "really pregnant" over night or over a few days, so i bet you'll "pop" noticeably, and soon :)

You say that your weight gain is b/c of sweets and not enough exercise (and while eating well and exercising is important), 12 lbs is a reasonable amount to have gained by 20 weeks.

  • I wasn't really showing either until about 18 weeks (had only gained 3.5 pounds at that point). But somewhere between 20-22 weeks I exploded. It will happen overnight! And then, you'll wish it would slow down a bit!

  • I totally understand! I'm a FTM and I've always been on the tiny side (I'm 5'6" but before weighed about 110 lbs.). I'm 20 weeks and I have what I would (and my parents, hubby and close friends) call a definite bump but people at work (who I see every day) can't quite all tell yet. It will come. I'll cross my fingers for both of us! :)

  • 20 weeks tomorrow and I barely look pregnant. You aren't alone!
  • 21 weeks today and just look like I ate too much! I'm still waiting for this overnight bump people keep talking about.
  • I was in the same situation at 18 weeks. And then I had the worst pain every time I sneezed, coughed, laughed blah blah blah, in only one round ligament. I decided I would see a chiropractor because I have heard of RLP but this had me in tears, and I have a pretty good tolerance for pain.

Went to my Chiropractor and sure enough my pelvis was WAY out of alignment. They did an adjustment and the next day my uterus POPPED! I asked my Dr, if the adjustment was the reason, and she was certain because my uterus was almost "stuck" behind one side of my pelvis causing pain and lack of baby bump.

Not sure if you're into the chiropractic services, but let me tell you, I have NEVER felt better during this pregnancy. I walk straighter, my hips don't pop when I walk and the headaches I was getting are completely gone. And I have one AWESOME bump!

    Hope yours pops soon!

  • My first pregnancy was like that. It was about 24 weeks before I was definitively pregnant and not just "fat"

I agree wearing maternity clothes make you look more pregnant other than fat. I still question my bump all the time....is it really baby or more fat?! ;)

Thank you for all the replies I am at a little more ease. I guess I just can't wait! I am fairly young at 23 years old so it's still a tiny bit awkward seeing high school or university friends and wondering if they are thinking oooo she got a little fat. Not that I really do care but maybe just a little. I am going to look into the chiropractor for sure as I have the same problem with my hips and head aches.
You guys are great! Thank you :
