"What does he think about it"

I am new to this board, I have lurked but never posted. I am 15 weeks pregnant and broke it off with my fianc before I found out I was pregnant. When I started telling people at work I was pregnant about 2 weeks ago I keep getting the same question "what does your ex think?" ... What am I supposed to say to that? He's happy that he's going to be a dad, he's not a bad person I just don't love him anymore. It's so irritating because if he wasn't happy I wouldn't tell them! Ugh I don't know if its just me, but I think it's rude for people who only know me at work to even ask this question! I don't get "aw congrats" or "do you have any names picked out?" It's seriously ALWAYS "what does your ex think about it?" ... I just think its a bit personal for people who don't know me to ask this.

Thanks for reading my rant, I am just upset about the whole situation and it just adds on to the guilt I feel.

  • That sucks, but some poepl just don't know how to guage a situation and keep their stupid thoughts to themselves.

Give it time. You're still early in your pregnancy and people love gossip. Once everyone has enjoyed your story it will be old news and you'll hear the normal inappropriate things people say to pregnant women!

I went through a similar thing when I got pregnant due to a BC failure before my divorce was final. And let me clarify it was by someone other than XH. Despite the fact we had been separated for a year that gossip still had to make the rounds for the first month after I announced my pregnancy. And why anyone would care how my XH would feel about me being pregnant by another man is beyond me. Drama.

  • People asked me this, too, when I was still with my ex. I never discussed personal issues with coworkers, and my ex and I were not doing great, so I was always really uncomfortable when they asked. It seems like a common question, for some reason. People are just nosy and rude.
