C-sections

sex--guy on top?

I've just been scheduled for my 1st c-section (had vag delivery 1st time around) and I think I'm most upset by something that probably shouldn't even be crossing my mind at this point: sex. You see, before getting pregnant DH and I had an amazing sex life that was always him on top of me. He is a big guy (6' 2 and 250 lbs) and I just don't see any way that we'll be able to have sex with him on top of my incision/scar. We've been married 4 years and always tried different positions, but nothing is as good as when he is on top of me. So can I expect it to ever get good again after having this surgery or what? Should I kiss this position goodbye?

  • Your incision won't be tender forever. There are a million positions you can do after being cleared for sexual activity. Try them until you fully heal.

  • It only took a few months before I was able to be on top again. It was missionary only at first, though.

  • we did a version of missionary but I was on side with leg on his shoulder.  This way scar didnt hurt.
  • I don't think it's going to be a problem.

  • If DH has a really big gut that sits on your incision area and causes unpleasant friction and/or pressure (during missionary); then it might be an issue. If so, try placing a pillow under your hip or have DH stand at the side of the bed while you lay at the edge. It would help minimize belly-to-belly pressure.
"What are you having?" "Well the radiologist says its a healthy little human baby. I'm a little disappointed, because I really wanted a puppy." LOL
  • By the time you're cleared for sex again, your incision probably won't be tender and the area around it will probably be a little numb. I'm almost 9 months out and I'm numb from just below my belly button to just above my girly bits. The only time my incision is tender is when I have menstrual cramps. DH and I have had sex in all sorts of positions since my c-section and nothing has hurt.

  • You will be just fine.  No worries.

It's just like any other scar.  It never goes away, but the pain does.  And it does not take that long.  If you're having sex before you're completely healed, you probably ignored your OB.  Seriously, you'll be fine.
