Teaching Boys to Aim Their Pee

I am just a lurker on this board, but we seriously need some help with this. DS is 3yr4mostill and has been PTed since about 2yo. But he still cannot go to the bathroom by himself at all. He needs help, specifically needs someone to hold his boy parts down and aimed at the toilet. He hates making a mess when he potties, and he HATES touching his parts when he potties in case he gets his hand messy.

We have tried making him sit down to pee with a toiket seat that has the lip for boys, but it still goes straight up in the air. We have tried fruit loops in the toilet water, telling him to shoot them. Just about everything anyone has suggested, we have done.

No luck! This is creating quite a situatiin because he asks the daycare teacher to help him hold his parts down to pee, too. He IS trying. He is so proud of himself whe. He thinks he did it and wants to tell everyone. But he still goes all over the place. My whole bathroom smells like stale pee, and we literally use lysol or clorox wipes as soon as he pees to clean everything up and fully clean it every weekend.

Anything we might not have tried yet?

  • Has he been leaning far forward when sitting down as well?  That is what has helped us!

This. My DS sits and leans forward, almost grabbing his ankles. As long as he remembers to do it there's no mess and no need to hold parts.

Ugh, we have tried all of these as well! If he sits and leans forward, it goes between the toilet and the seat and all over his pants and the floor and even the wall in front of him if he doesn't have his pants on. If he stands and leans over to hold the lifted seat, it either goes sideways or straight up in the air almost to his face.

When I say you have to hold it down for him, I mean you have to FORCE it down. It's almost like an adult man in the morning. Not trying to be weird, but I am wondering if maybe something is causing his penis to be a little more... difficult? No one else I have talked to about this has had this problem. The above mentioned techniques worked well, and if standing, it was just a matter of getting them to pay attention (such as fruit loops in the potty). But DS really IS paying attention and trying. His body is just not cooperating.

  • We have this problem. If he doesn't aim it, it just goes up and straight out. So, basically all over the back of the toilet if he is standing, or straght onto the bathroom rug if he is sitting. I was pretty convinced he is weird for a while. We finally just had my fianc? show him how to use one finger to push his man parts down to aim. For us, it just took a strong male role model, and he understood. Sorry if that wasn't much help. I just wanted to let you know that you aren't alone.
