What are your plans to get through the pains of labor?
Will you be using visualization or hypnobirthing techniques, or just breathing techniques?
Will you be using a doula, or will your hubby be your only coach?
Will you consider epidurals/pain relief meds if you absolutely need it?
Re: Planning on med-free hospital birth? Come in...
What are your plans to get through the pains of labor? Hanging out in the tub, moving around, breathing techniques
Will you be using visualization or hypnobirthing techniques, or just breathing techniques? Prob. just breathing
Will you be using a doula, or will your hubby be your only coach? Hubby
Will you consider epidurals/pain relief meds if you absolutely need it? Absolutely. I'm trying to stay completely open minded so that I'm not disappointed by my birth experience. (Easier said than done I know!)

When a med-free hospital birth was my goal (about the first 4 weeks before finding out it was twins) I was going to do breathing/visualization techniques. When I have as little pain as cramping I picture my self breathing out the pain and breathing in"good" to fill the spot. I eventually put my self to sleep this way. I figured it would work very well for breathing away contractions and visual thinking about the baby moving down or cervix opening. You get the point.
We were only going to have my husband in the room. I also will not have any other family since they aren't in the area.
I will consider epidurals/pain relief but I studied up on them and the "domino effect" that various interventions led to and how to safely avoid/put off following problems.
But now... I've come to terms with an induction or emergency c-section. Baby A just won't turn!
Focusing, breathing, prayer....really just trying to stay centered and not panic over the pain is my main goal. Breathing is something I can control...visualization hasn't really worked for me in practice because I get too distracted. But breathing? I'm a pro. We'll see how it works.
My hubby will be my coach.
Yes, I will consider the epidural. I REALLY don't want one, but I need to make sure that my will doesn't overpower what's best for me and my body and the baby.
What are your plans to get through the pains of labor?
Breathing, accupressure, using the tub, sheer determination.
Will you be using visualization or hypnobirthing techniques, or just breathing techniques?
I haven't looked into this much but maybe. It's real hard for me to tune people out so I don't know how effective it will be.
Will you be using a doula, or will your hubby be your only coach?
Yes I have a wonderful doula team.
Will you consider epidurals/pain relief meds if you absolutely need it?
Yes, this is my first time so I am open to change. I want to avoid it but you just never know what it will be like.
My Blog
I'm combining the first two questions because my answer is the same. I'm going for a med free VBAC at my hospital. I don't expect terrible pain, to be honest. I've done this once before, and was it uncomfortable? Yeah. Was it the terrible, awful, scream inducing pain that all the movies show you? No. Not for me, at least. I plan to deal with it by using a combo of my prep methods; visualization, relaxation and breathing from hypnobirthing, and also using affirmations like, "It's just a contraction and it'll be over in a few seconds" and, "The contraction can not be stronger than me because it comes from me."
Will you be using a doula, or will your hubby be your only coach?
Doula and hubs.
Will you consider epidurals/pain relief meds if you absolutely need it?
I'm not against meds. I had an epi the first time. Thing is, my labor deteriorated the first time, and I don't know if it was the epi or the pit or something else. But I'll be avoiding all interventions this time, just in case. If I do find I need an epi, 8cm is the soonest I'll get it.
Will you be using visualization or hypnobirthing techniques, or just breathing techniques? Mostly just breathing techniques and some visualization.
Will you be using a doula, or will your hubby be your only coach? My hubby will be the only coach. He has a very calming affect on me, so hopefully that will help.
Will you consider epidurals/pain relief meds if you absolutely need it? I guess. As long as I get the OK from the doc. My blood pressure is really low, so I have been preparing to go without as the epidural lowers blood pressure even more. Getting confirmation on that one this afternoon.
Will you be using visualization or hypnobirthing techniques, or just breathing techniques? Won't know until go time
Will you be using a doula, or will your hubby be your only coach? Hubs
Will you consider epidurals/pain relief meds if you absolutely need it? Yes, I'm adamant about going natural but I don't want to be so exhausted I can't push and need a c section
What are your plans to get through the pains of labor?
I'm just planning on "winging" it. This is our first baby and my husband will be my coach. We'll be using breathing techniques we learned in class and hopefully I'll be able to get him to do some massage as well (if I'm in the mood for it). I have some nice eucalyptus spearmint toiletries, so I may have to break out the lotion for a calming scent in the room to help focus on something other than pain/pressure.
I'm not totally against the pain meds but would rather not use them if I can get through labor on my own. I'm hoping that I won't have to be induced, as I'd rather not have Pitocin running through my veins either. Hoping to be as natural as possible, while still keeping the overall outcome of healthy mom/baby in back of my mind.
I don't really have any big plans, I never looked into hypnobirthing although I wanted to and at this point I don't want to put the money out for the book & CD. I plan to use the tub and I'm currently looking into a Doula because I just found out some work on a sliding scale, and there is no way I can pay $400+. I won't rule out an epidural because I did have one with M, but I'm terrified to get another one so I'm really hoping not to.
My biggest "plan" is to have them break my water as soon as possible (if it doesn't break on it's own) because last time they broke my water 13hours into my labor and within 1 1/2 hours I dilated the remaining 6cms and delivered. Breaking her water was my mom's fast forward button too for both of her kids so if that's the magic I want to have it done fast so I can deliver fast and not even have the time for an epidural.
I plan to breathe through the contractions and remind myself that it's temporary!
Just breathing techniques unless in the moment I decide I want to visualize
Just hubby as the coach!
I will consider an epidural if my labor is very long or complicated - it is a last resort!
What are your plans to get through the pains of labor?
really just plan to take them one at a time, and look at it as each one being closer to meeting my son! Also plan to labor at home for awhile, until I feel it's time to go to the hospital! So, i'll use the tub, shower, popsicles, yoga techniques, etc.
Will you be using visualization or hypnobirthing techniques, or just breathing techniques?
Breathing techniques that I've learned in childbirth class and through practicing yoga. Plan to have some calming sounds playing in the background, such as ocean waves. May use visualization as well, I'm currently contemplating that as well.
Will you be using a doula, or will your hubby be your only coach?
Just hubby
Will you consider epidurals/pain relief meds if you absolutely need it?
Only if I am completely exhausted and nowhere near transition. this is my first child, so I don't want to be completely closed off to the idea, but the plan is to go med-free.
I am really hoping for a med-free birth. We have gone through childbirth classes and learned some breathing techniques, but I am beginning to worry it might not be enough. Our hospital will let laboring moms sit in the tub as long as possible and I am hoping that it helps a lot, but who knows.
I did get a Rx for a TENS unit, and I have heard those can help too, and my plan is to labor at home as long as possible. (DH works almost an hour away, so I am thinking that it will force me to stay home for a little longer then I would if he worked really close.)
We didnt' get a doula or anything and so DH will be the one supporting me through labor.
I am allergic to the preservatives in most local anesthetics (lidocaine ect. ) so there is only one medicine hat is considered safe for me and it is not as strong or as beneficial as the typical forms of epidurals. Although my allergy is sufficiently noted in all my medical charts and is on our birth preference sheet and DH knows about it, I keep having this reoccurring dream that the Dr. messes up and gives me the wrong medicine and I have a reaction while in labor. I think I am more afraid of that happening then actual labor. Of course if things get horrible I will gett he meds and just tripple check to make sure it is the right one.
Will you be using visualization or hypnobirthing techniques, or just breathing techniques? Hypnobirthing with combination of breathing and visualization.
Will you be using a doula, or will your hubby be your only coach? Doula
Will you consider epidurals/pain relief meds if you absolutely need it? Yes. I think I can do it but I am not against assistance if needed.
Will you be using visualization or hypnobirthing techniques, or just breathing techniques? Mostly just breathing techniques.
Will you be using a doula, or will your hubby be your only coach? I just have my husband there for support. We'll see how he deals with me being in a lot of pain.
Will you consider epidurals/pain relief meds if you absolutely need it? Yes and no. Yes because I really don't know how I'll handle that much pain. No because I really believe that our bodies are built to do this, and I'd just love for it to happen naturally. I also don't want to give in to pain meds to have labor stall and wind up needing a c-section.

I love these sayings and am stealing them to use. Thanks for sharing them.
What are your plans to get through the pains of labor?
Labor/exercise ball, walking, yoga stretches, massage and warm bath.
Will you be using visualization or hypnobirthing techniques, or just breathing techniques?
Relaxation and visualization.
Will you be using a doula, or will your hubby be your only coach?
Hubbs will be the coach
Will you consider epidurals/pain relief meds if you absolutely need it?
I'm not going to write off the epidural completely, but I have asked that no one "suggest" it as an option. I plan to labor at home as long as possible, which might be the deciding factor in whether or not I even get to the hospital in time to receive an epidural. I know there will be intense pain, but I believe that if I apply the techniques I've been working on, I can get through it pain free.
I am hoping to use breath-awareness as well as touch and smell to help get me through it. Tibetan bowls are also awesome and totally distracting (the sound cuts through anything) but I dont have one, sadly. I also started practicing some laboring positions with my husband, including the use of counter-pressure which helped a lot last time..
I did the whole hypobabies thing last time and didnt use it at all.
I will have a doula and a hubby and I cannot recommend having a doula enough!!!
My last birth was a homebirth turned back labor turned hospital transfer turned c-section. I am trying for a VBAC this time. So much was unexpected last time, that I am open to whatever I need in the moment to feel safe, including an epidural. I would prefer not to have one, but I can't really imagine wanting to experience back labor again!
What are your plans to get through the pains of labor? Well we read Bradley last time and I needed to have a C-section (breech) and this time I decided I would try out hypnobabies and see if I liked the program. I went into labor the night before my scheduled section and was almost at transition when I got to the hospital and I didn't mind the pain at all, I was so flipping excited to have gone into labor naturally that I barely noticed it.
Will you be using visualization or hypnobirthing techniques, or just breathing techniques? After toying around with my research I've decided I'm kind of just going to wing it. I'm pretty determined to stay med free and I'm competitive with myself so I'm going with Irish Stubbornness as my main technique. Also I had a terrible reaction to anesthesia with my blood pressure going dangerously low so if I can do anything to avoid any interventions it would be great, and will be a great incentive to stay med free.
Will you be using a doula, or will your hubby be your only coach? I originally wanted a doula but my husband is super into being the coach. He has done more research than me honestly so I'm happy to be saving the money and I trust him completely. He was the dude on the hospital tour that asked detailed questions about continuous monitoring.
Will you consider epidurals/pain relief meds if you absolutely need it? Hmmm, I really don't want to say yes, but I am going to go with if my husband and midwife, who both fully support the med-free choice, think it may help or I should go for it I *may* listen to them. I have a birth plan in my head, but if it doesn't go according to plan and there is a healthy baby and mom at the end I don't really care.
What are your plans to get through the pains of labor? Just one at a time. Hopefully be able to stay at home as long as possible, and my doula will check me to see if I'm ready to go to the hospital. There I hope to use the shower, or just show up in enough time to push!
Will you be using visualization or hypnobirthing techniques, or just breathing techniques? Eeh, I wanted to do hypnobirthing but it might be too late
I should've ordered sooner. I don't have any breathing techniques- last time I just did whatever felt right.
Will you be using a doula, or will your hubby be your only coach? The MW who delivered my son will be driving down to act as our doula
plus DH.
Will you consider epidurals/pain relief meds if you absolutely need it? If it's the choice between a C-section, or a stalled labor with complications, I would consider an epidural if I'm dilated far enough. I hope to avoid meds though. I figured I did it once as a FTM, so it's gotta be easier the second time!

What are your plans to get through the pains of labor?
I'll be staying home as long as I can since I know I'll feel more relaxed that way (the hospital's only 10 minutes away). Once I'm at the hospital, they have tubs I can use and don't require monitoring, so I should be able to walk/move around if I want to.
Will you be using visualization or hypnobirthing techniques, or just breathing techniques?
Breathing and mindfulness meditations
Will you be using a doula, or will your hubby be your only coach?
Just my husband
Will you consider epidurals/pain relief meds if you absolutely need it?
Yes, if I really need to. (For now I'm excited to see what my body can do, and I'm actually way too curious about how everything will feel--pain included--to want to miss any of it.)
What are your plans to get through the pains of labor? Breathing and doing whatever I can to make myself as comfortable as possible, whether that be showers of birthing ball etc.
Will you be using visualization or hypnobirthing techniques, or just breathing techniques? Just breathing
Will you be using a doula, or will your hubby be your only coach? My hubby. He did great last time and honestly I didn't like "too many cooks in the kitchen"
Will you consider epidurals/pain relief meds if you absolutely need it? Yes. I am going in wanting to do a med-free birth, and I know I can do it, but circumstances and situations change, so I will definitely keep it on the table. I am just hoping this time goes much quicker than last time... I had an epi for relief after about 20 hours of back labor, which then wore off a couple hours before the birth. It was a nice break and I am afraid of doing it all without help!

We are using the Bradley Method and a doula. The doula is more for hubby than me though, he is the kind that can stress out which in turn stresses me out.
But I am going into it thinking pain meds are not an option. Nothing against those that do use them, it is just a personal decision for us.
