October 2013 Moms

Hands Off!

So yesterday was the first time I was at church in a few weeks and the first time a lot of people have seen me since I "popped" (I'm 17w4d) and half the freaking congregation decided it would be fine to pet my stomach. I was seriously freaked out and backed away more than once!

How do you handle this? Does it not bother others?

Re: Hands Off!

  • I turn away when I see people's arms moving in my direction or I keep my hands on my stomach blocking them.  I hate to be touched and I would end up pushing their hands away and saying "don't touch me" like a 4 year old.

If anyone touches me ill shank their face.

And I'm definitely wearing a shirt that says if you didn't put it there don't touch it.
  • It doesn't bother me at all, and it definitely wouldn't bother me if it was people at my church.

Hahaha, this made me almost choke on the yummy blueberry cobbler someone made and brought to work today!  I totally had a scene from jersey shore going through my head.

I'm one of those weird ones, it doesn't bother me unless it's a total stranger, especially a creeper one, but in that case I wouldn't have time to shank them before DH beat them into a pulp.  He's protective.  :)

Otherwise, I think its nice for family and friends to rub my belly.  Makes me feel cozy.

  • This doesn't bother me to a huge extent (as long as I know the person) after I have popped--before, when they are just rubbing fat, it bothers me a lot!

If it still bothers you, just be nice about it and say that it makes you feel squeamish for people to touch your belly, but give hugs or whatever else you normally do.  Love having a community where people genuinely get excited for the birth of another member of the community--try to keep in mind that the touching comes from a good place, even if it makes you feel uncomfortable.

I would just save up the good stories in my head to tell my husband in the evening--if you can laugh about it, it makes it more bearable!

  • Ugh. I really want to buy the shirt the says "if you didn't put it there then don't touch it" and wear it everyday! I hate being touched. Luckily my MIL is the only one so far who has done it but I didn't even like that!

I saw this shirt on Zulily the other day and it made me giggle.

I've pretty much been able to block all feel ups, but for the ones I miss, I just give their belly a good squeeze and say" aww, you're so squishy". They get the point after that.

Once you're fully popped and its people you know, you may not care anymore. I don't mind so much and I almost throat punched the first person that did that to me in the beginning.. but back then, it was just my stomach they were rubbing, so it was weird.

LOL! I've never seen that shirt!

I'm ok with family doing it but no so much with other people

This exactly. You touch my stomach and I'm touching yours.
