LO's clothes Q

DS is just getting into 18 month clothes. I'm assuming he'll be in 18 months all summer.

DH's grandma constantly buys DS clothes too big for the season. She bought him 3 pair of size 18 month pants for Christmas and I'm just not sure if I should hang onto them or exchange them for shorts. He has 2 pair of jean-like pants, these are sweatpants.

She also just bought him a sleeveless top and shorts to match in size 24 months. I have 2 problems with this. 1 - he doesn't wear shirts alone because of his feeding tube. I don't know what I could put under a sleeveless top. 2 - they're size 24 months and I'm not sure if he'll fit into them by the end of the summer.

They're all Garanamals brand, so it's not like we're talking high end. What would you do?

Feel free to add your IL vents here :) We haven't been doing MIL Monday!

  • My mil does that too! It's her way of telling me he needs to be bigger though lol. Or she will send sweats and sweatshirts in the size he is in now...we live in Texas and its super hot already! ORRR she will buy stuff supper big like 4 and 5t. Drives me nuts lol. I would just return them for something he will actually wear. I've done it plenty of times, no use them sitting in the dresser!

  • DD was born 10+lbs, so we get gifted clothes in the opposite direction - sizes she's already grown out of but match her age.

I think Granamals is a Walmart brand??  If Walmart is already part of your usual grocery routine, I'd just exchange them when you go.  When/if Great Grandma comes over, they're "in the dirty clothes to be washed."

Maybe I'm a wuss at confrontation and hurting feelings, but when it's a great grandma sometimes it's better to just accept it and return it rather than trying to "teach" her what DS's size/season or physical need (due to the tube) is.
In my personal experience, this would just be taken as "you don't like my style/appreciate my gift."
She still gets the joy of giving the girft and you get to pick out something more appropriate...

    That's what I'd do.

No MIL and I don't think FIL really cares that he has a grandchild (his only), so there's really nothing to complain about - unless it's that we're pretty much ignored.  Ha!

Thanks ladies! That's what I was leaning towards, but I feel bad returning things that someone obviously thought hard about. I don't usually go to WalMart, but I'll get there eventually.

I thought the sleeveless top was a nice thought, and I've been looking for sleeveless onsies. Hard to come by, maybe they'll be in stores in a month or so.

I have another vent to add though... DS needs his 2nd set of tubes and adenoids taken out. I scheduled it as soon as I could which happens to fall on DH's motorcycle trip with the guys. MIL asked if DH was staying home and he said no. She got mad at him because he never goes to appointments or procedures for DS. I think it's dumb because it's our arrangement and she does not need to butt into our relationship. It would be dumb for him to take a day off when I am perfectly capable of handling it on my own. The end.

I would take the clothes back, too, and exchange them for a size that actually fits.

And argh! I would hate it if MIL told DH what to do and what not to do regarding our own agreements. That would piss me off.

  • I'm sure she's coming from a good place...??

Did you ever go to Nashville?  I couldn't remember when that trip was supposed to be.

DH's business trip is in Nashville in August. I think he might go by himself to save a little bit of money. My sister lives near there and I really wanted to visit her, but she's planning on coming home that same weekend so I won't miss out on seeing her again!  I'm bummed that our last vacation together was 2 years ago during a business meeting, and we aren't planning on another vaca for another year or more. Oh well... life with kids - not that I can blame DS, it's totally my choice to not leave him.

For some reason I thought the trip also included the ILs and your vent was about them wanting to go to places that were not child friendly.  Since we were venting ILs, I thought I'd ask how that went...
(I must be getting my stories mixed up though.)

I have tons of these from Carter's. They are sold in 5 packs. I actually love them. I have them as "under shirts" for DS instead of the white onsies with short sleeves. I always liked the sleeveless better.

I'd check their website to see if they have them. Also I got some at Babies R Us in their layette section. They always seem to have them there.
