Trouble TTC

How do you keep healthy/fit

Since my Lap surgery, I have put on weight. I used to do boot camp and running, but my acupuncturist advised me to just walk during this cycle; especially now during the 2ww. RE said the same, but only during 2ww.  I am one who struggles with weight. If I'm not 100% and committed to workouts, I put on weight fast and even when I'm committed, I have that last stubborn 10 that won't budge! It's depressing enough to go through all of this without the weight issue.  I think (or at least I hope) that the medications are part of the reason for this weight gain? I eat well and have my splurge every once in awhile. I am hoping that at the end of this, it will worth itl. What do you do to keep active and healthy through all of this and still keep it low impact during the 2ww? Has anyone else been told not to do boot camp or run while taking meds and during 2ww? I don't understand how working out could be bad for you.

TIA for any suggestions. My DH doesn't understand and just keeps saying "do something about it then!". I feel stuck....and fat. :-/

This is an area that is causing a lot of emotional distress for me too. We're just starting out, but my RE told me that I should limit my exercise to an hour a day. He wasn't so thrilled when I asked about running, but said to just keep it under an hour a day or no more than 7 hours total for the week (I asked about long runs because I'm a marathoner). I plan to ask again for more specific instructions when we get to our first medicated cycle (which will hopefully be soon).

My DH doesn't understand either, but says the opposite. He thinks I should just happily give up running and make the sacrifice for the good of the order. While I would be willing to do this if it were absolutely necessary it would be extremely hard. Of course I would do it, and probably try to find alternative ways to stay fit and healthy - both in terms of body image and mentally. I'm curious to see how other people respond.

  • weight loss is 80% what you eat 20% exercise. i follow weight watchers lifestyle and run 3 ish miles 3 days a week so it is less than 30 minutes of working out and i dont run super fast so it isnt really high impact. I hope you find something that works for you. it is really hard to deal with all of the meds, rules, etc and not gain :(

I agree with the 80/20 rule about food and exercise.  Sometimes I think I'm eating healthy, but I'm technically only eating the right amount if I was still doing the heavy cardio I was doing before.  I started having much lighter dinners (no carbs, or soup/salad), and that helped.  I also do more weight classes at the gym instead of the running or boot camps - I haven't gotten back to my original weight, but I feel I at least have a better shape and my clothes fit better.

Thanks! I have never heard of the 80/20 before. I guess I need to log....probably having too much carbs or sugars and when  I do workout it's okay because I maintain.  Totally makes sense.

  • I use myfitnesspal.com to help me track my calories. I eat lots and lots of fresh and clean things and only indulge from time to time.My weight fluctuates all the time, and I understand completely. I'm trying to shed 10-15 pounds before starting IVF.

I also have a fitbit. I do run, but even when I can't the fitbit helps because it motivates you to get at least 10,000 steps a day. They don't have to be running. Go for a long walk after dinner. Include your hubby in the activity!

  • My RE was okay with me keeping up my usual routine through IUIs (running, weights, etc.). But for this cycle, I'll just be walking and doing light weights. I'm worried because my normal workout routine is my main outlet for stress and anxiety, but hopefully walking have some of the same effects.

I also use sparkpeople.com to track calories in/out. It's a great site, and it's free.
