How many newborn diapers do you have?

Just wondering, how many disposable newborn diapers would you ladies recommend?

I have about 75-80 right now and I'm sure that won't last long. However, I didn't want to invest in a ton of them because depending on how big baby is maybe I'll have to put her in size 1 sooner than later? I'm just not sure.

Let me know what you think! TIA.

  • No idea. You just need to wait and see. No way of knowing whether you will have a 5 lb baby or a 10 lb baby. You can always exchange unopened boxes for a bigger size though.

  • I will be waiting to see baby's size and what diaper works best. For now I am buying small packs of each. So far I bought a small pack of luvs. Someone bought me pack of Pampers swaddlers and I want to get Huggies and some store brands. But small packs only. Some kids are diff, my friend swears on luvs another on pampers. My cousin says her friend loves the target brand. It really depends on baby, how much they move, leak and what fits their booties.

I have no experience, but I bought 80 newborns (they say they fit up to 10 lbs) and 80 size ones to start with, in addition to our cloth stash.

  • I have about 80 too right now. I am in the same boat as you, I thought that is enough to get me by for the first week then I'll send someone to buy more of whatever size I happen to need.

  • I only purchased one smaller package. I figured it was better to run out and need more, than have too many and the next child is another 2 years out.

I honestly have 100's of size 1s and 2s. Family members got us tons of them as gifts. I do not have any newborn diapers though. Our baby is looking way over the 8lbs mark that a size 1 starts at. Plus our hospital sends you home with a bunch so if by some chance he can fit into a new born ill just use those. We do have a mixture of brands though and we kept everything unopened in case we need to make exchanges.
  • I have one 42 pack of nbs plus about 5-6 of the free samples.  I figure between this and what we get at the hospital, it will be enough to get us until the umbilical cord falls off.  At that point, he will probably be fine in size 1-2 and we have a Costco box of those.  Worse comes to worst, DH can run out to Target and get another pack of nbs.

  • I was told not to buy diapers because people would end up giving them to you.  That turned out not to be the case for me, so yesterday I went out and bought a box of size 1 (108 count).  For some reason that box was the same price as the box with 90, so it was a no brainer.

I didn't see any newborn sizes so I thought one was the smallest!  Whoops, sounds like I need to go back to the store!

Just had my baby shower over the weekend I have 1 big box of 64 NB diapers and 2 small 30 count packs....then I got 5 packs of size 1 and someone even got me a pack of size 2's...So I am covered! Plus you get some at the hospital as well!

We're on our 5th pack of NB diapers, each of them containing about 80 and our LO is just over three weeks old. But it all depends on how big your baby is.

I know cloth diapering isnt for everyone, but reading actual numbers like this makes me love my cloth!

I have one package of around 80 disposable newborns to use at first until the meconium is gone, and one package of size 1's to keep for some type of unexpected situation.

I would wait and see. My DD was in newborn diapers for a week or so then size 1 for a long time. I would wait and I don't know about your hospital but mine let me take home the newborn diapers that were in my DD's bassinet so we didn't really need to buy much more.
  • I only have one box of newborn diapers, so about 100. But DS was 9lbs 3oz when he was born so I don't think I will need more than that. I have more size 1's. It definitely depends on your baby's size, so I would wait and see.

Well, it sounds like I have enough to get started so I won't buy anymore. I already have a few packages of size 1 and size 2 so I think I'll be ok.

I'm glad I'm not as unprepared as I thought I might be. Thanks for the help!

  • I have 2 opened cases of Pampers Newborn (About 170+ diapers).  My DD was 6lbs 13oz and Dr's suspect this one will be even smaller.  After they lose some ounces before leaving the hospital, I expect to be in NB dipes for a few weeks.  I estimate we will go through 10-12 diapers every day until we get on a schedule.  These are my only NB diapers for now though.  I will buy more as needed.
  • I bought one box of 90ish I think. But its my second baby, so I don't see her fitting them as long. I have a few friends who have extras they're wanting to get rid of as well. They go through a lot a day in the first few weeks, but you can always send someone out to get more if you need to. And 1's will fit most babies right away as well.

This reminds me, my hospital puts all new babies in size 1's.  Aside from premies.  My baby was small and I hated it.  I may put a few newborn dipes in the hospital bag.

We got a pack of I think 40 newborn diapers, we didnt buy any after that. We also got a 3 tiered diaper cake made of size 1's so we havent bought any more of those either. I figure we will wait and see how big she is and how she grows. If you buy extra, you can exchange unopened packs for whatever size you do need!

  • I have around 250 newborn diapers enough for 25 days with my 10/day estimate.

I believe I have too many, but my MIL insists that I need them since my husband was small at birth. I just nod my head and accept each box she gives me.

  • We have already gone through 144 newborn diapers and LO is almost 3wks old.
  • I have one box of nb with 96 in it that I have opened. Another pack of like 60 ish? I'm not opening those though, because I don't know if we will need them! Most babies could go ahead and be in size 1s, but its nice to have the wet line of the nb,especially for first time parents! We have tons of size 1s though!

  • Way more than I needed for an 11lbs baby and they were all left over from my 10 lb baby I had last time. I wouldnt worry too much about it. You can always exchange them for other sizes as long as they are not opened.
