Listeria

Hi..so..I've been craving a cold turkey sandwich but of course, have heard of the dangers of listeria from cold deli meats. I know people say to just warm up the meat until it's steaming and then it's safe to eat..but i really crave it cold. I was wondering if it'd be okie to warm it up then let it cool before eating?

Re: Listeria

  • you don't even have to warm it up. listeria is very rare and you have more chances of getting it from vegetables than you do your deli meats. eat the meat and don't worry about it.

My kid is fine. I ate plenty of lunch meat, I mean, he has a tail, but I think it's cute.

  • It is ok to warm it up then let it cool.  Just don't let it sit too long.  Enjoy!
Can't figure out the signature thing, so here's the short, short version.....first daughter born on November 10, 2013. She was conceived through the magic of IVF after 2+ years of TTC.
  • I eat a turkey wrap several times a week. It's delicious and I'm almost 29 weeks pregnant and my baby is just fine:) as PP said listeria is more common with vegetables.
  • My doc said that as long as it is not from a questionable source, deli meat is fine. It is preferable to get it from somewhere that slices it fresh and doesn't just let it sit around.

  • I have Jimmy John's at least once a week.  And it's not heated.  Eat the meat!  I'm fine. Baby is fine.  My daughter is fine.

  • Eat it cold. You are more likely to get listeria from cantaloupe, or spinach than deli meat. If you want to heat until steaming then let it cool then that works too.

  • Had a cold turkey sandwich from subway today and like 3 times last week.

Just eat it. Yes there are risks but you can also eat a salad and the risk is there also.
