Trying to Get Pregnant

Rant! BBTR

This is nothing but a rant because I'm super frustrated with myself! We were visiting my parents this weekend and I left my thermometer tucked in the pillowcase on their guest bed! I think I O'd yesterday and I have no backup thermometer except the regular fever thermometer in the medicine cabinet. My BBT is in a pillowcase a state away, and I'd ask my mom to mail it, but that would lead to an awkward conversation...she doesn't know we're TTC. She'll find it anyway when she changes the sheets, but UGH! I need a reliable temp tomorrow and I don't want my mom to know we're TTC.

Ok, end rant. And here's a pug to say thanks for listening:

Is CVS open 24 hours? And would CVS even have one? It's already almost 11pm here, and I've noticed that many of the stores near me don't carry them. You have to order them. Target keeps one on the shelf at a time...I think I'm stuck for tonight.

Some cvs stores and walgreens are 24 hours. My first bbt was from cvs and the one I have now is from walgreens. Check online to see if your store is 24 hours.

  • I hate the idea of switching thermometers mid-cycle, but in a situation like this I guess it's necessary. Do you have a Wal-Mart near you? I got my Mabis there, and most of the stores near me are 24 hours.

  • Nope. My CVS closed at 10. We don't have a Walgreens and Walmart is pretty far away. The thermometer I have works well but it only measures to the tenth...how much will it mess my chart up to use that for one day and then get a new BBT tomorrow?

Oh, and any suggestions on how to handle the mom finding BBT issue are welcome too!

  • I would call her and tell her it's there before she finds it on her own. If you aren't ready to admit you are TTC then maybe if she questions it indicate you use it to determine O for birth control reasons?

Oh well, that stinks about it closing at 10. Walmart is far from me, but we have at least one cvs and one walgreens that are 24 hours and pretty close.

As for the mom thing, I am not sure! Is she likely to suspect ttc because of finding a thermometer? Can you just say you have been feeling like you're over heating lately or something, and were taking your temperature? Hahaha! I am such a bad liar!

  • I think she'll know when she sees it. It's pink, and if she turns it on she'll see the decimals, and she's no stranger to NFP and charting...I guess telling her we're using it to TTA could work, but if we get pregnant soon, wouldn't she think it wasn't planned?

She's always telling me and DH that we need to be thinking about number 2 soon. Ugh, we're set up for negative comments either way. DH is pretty peeved that I forgot my BBT.

I'm really more ranting than looking for solutions at this point, but you ladies are wonderful! :D Thank you!

Lol! Well if you tell her you're irregular and are temping to tta and then get pregnant, is she really going to throw the thermometer in your face anyway? I think that whole thing will be forgotten and she will just be happy you're having a baby!

    Good luck!

  • Personally, I would use the regular thermometer in a pinch, since you are so close to O. Obviously it's not the most scientifically accurate, but something is better than nothing.

I don't understand why her finding it is a big deal, or why you have to tell her anything. It's not like you're 16 and she found a box of condoms. You are an adult. If she asks, just tell her you are charting your cycles. Period (no pun intended). Why does there have to be any more info than that?

  • I was temping as a method of birth control several months before TTC. It isn't just for TTGP purposes. I would just tell her that!

You're right, peanut. I am totally over thinking it! I was just frustrated and panicked a little when I thought of her finding it. She brings up "baby number 2" in almost every other conversation, so I was afraid of the added tension. She does mean well, though.

I used the regular thermometer this morning and got a way high temp. I'm not sure if it's accurate or just the thermometer, but I suppose we'll see in the coming days! Thanks, all!
