....I felt like an awkward teenager asking a boy if he wanted to go to the junior high dance with me....
I asked this lovely girl at the gym play care center if she babysits outside of work. Seriously, it's taken me weeks to approach her so as not to scare her away or make her feel like I was desperate (which I totally am).
Anyway, I sit in the playcare with my son so he can run around and play but I never get to go workout because he FLIPSTHEEFFOUT if I leave. I've watched her with the kids for weeks (months, really) and she's great!
So, quick question:
How much do you pay your babysitters? I don't really mean nannies or FT care providers, I mean "Ohmigawd Mommy Needs A Martini and Out of This House" Saturday night babysitters...
Re: I finally did it! (and another poll)
When I researched it here (Indianapolis), the going rate is about $8/hour. If our babysitter watches him after he's already in bed for the night, we pay her $5/hour.
I asked my friends on FB and put my zip code in here.

We pay our two 20+ year old sitters $13-15/hour. I cannot imagine paying someone $5/hour for two kids, teenager or not.
That's way below minimum wage and if you want to keep good sitters, I would not lowball.
Thanks, ladies. I asked some other people at the gym how much they are paid (I kinda, sorta know them) and I figure she's making right around $10/hour. Researching my area, most sitters are around $15-20. I'll offer her $15 and start there.
PP was right - I don't want to lose her by low-balling and I'd rather be the highest paying person she has so she stays loyal to me
LOL.
DH and I have only had a couple of dates in 18+ months and it is time for us to re-connect as a couple. We are so awesome with the 'Team Kiddo" part of our relationship but I feel like other parts are suffering. We just need to be able to go out, have dinner, have a drink (or two) and laugh and talk about something that doesn't include diapers, biting, a possible rash of some sort or if that stain can come out of the carpet or not.
I've been missing my best friend.
