XP: Car Seat for Sweaty Baby

Yesterday while out and about with my son (12 weeks), he was fussing a lot more than usual in his car seat. I thought he was overtired (which I still think he was), but when we eventually finished errands, I brought him home, and took him out of his car seat (infant seat - britax b-safe) to find that his entire back was covered in sweat (and he had left a nice sweat mark on the car seat as well).

It's not that warm yet here (live in the Boston area), so I'm concerned about what an issue this might be when it actually gets hot. As such, if it's a problem, we may convert him to a convertible seat sooner than planned in an attempt to remedy the situation.

Any convertible seat recommendations for a tall (100th percentile), sweaty baby (he sounds so cute when I describe him that way)?

  • DD1 was always sweaty and I personally felt I cared more about her safety than her being sweaty and uncomfortable.  In my experience that's an issue with almost all car seats beecause there's just no way for the material to breathe.

I'd say when you know you're going out are going to have your LO in their car seat for a while, dress them so that they aren't too hot.

  • This is a pretty common issue and lots of the review on amazon for the b-safe mentioned it.  It happens occasionally with DS.  I'm not sure there are many car seats that won't do the same thing.  I will say that reviews of the Peg Perego convertible car seat said the fabric was really breathable. (we're getting ready to switch)  It is a pretty expensive one, though.  Over $300.
  • Try and get one with more of a cotton cover and not one with suede.  I have a Britex Boulevard with a cotton cover.  You really need to go feel them out before buying, because you can't tell from pictures.

I've heard graco my size convertible car seat and diono/radian car seats are good for tall babies.  Not sure about heat-'

My guy is sweaty too and leaves sweat marks on his carseat.  he's less sweaty once we were able to remove the infant insert.  I usually take his socks off once we get in the car.  I figure I'll be using the a/c in the summer so he shouldn't get hot.

we have the be-safe car seat too. I just dress him in short sleeve cotton onesies with pants .  I plan on using this until he outgrows it, I'll just probably soon leave it in the car instead of carrying it around since it's so heavy with him in it now.  then I want to get a diono car seat-
