First Allergist Appointment Today

I have posted a couple times but mostly lurk. I just wanted to share and vent feelings to people that understand.

LO is 11mo, and I've been dairy and soy free since 2 weeks. He still occasionally gets mucus and blood in his diapers, but he's a much happier guy than when he was tiny. I was concerned about what to feed him for protein, since I'm afraid of eggs, tree nuts and peanuts, and he hates the texture of meat.

The allergist recommends that I continue dairy/soy free until 2 years. He should not drink anything but breast milk and water until then. For protein, feed him lots of high protein grains like lentils and quinoa. She switched his Zantac to Prevacid. I'm supposed to keep a food/spit up journal so I can link the two. I'm also supposed to essentially night wean him. He's allowed to eat at 11pm, but not again until morning. Right now he nurses about 3 times in the night.

If he still has bloody poop and spit ups after this, we do testing and possibly scopes with GI. I am NOT looking forward to the tears involved in night weaning. And I'm cool with extended breast feeding, but I really wanted to stop pumping at work. She discouraged that so I can ensure that I'll maintain my supply through 2 years.

I will do it because that's what's best for my little guy, but I thought we were going to be close to reintroducing foods. A part of me feels selfish and guilty for not wanting to continue the diet restrictions. It's the same part that wants pizza. :

  • He's still spitting up a lot. She's concerned that he eats and then lays down, making the reflux worse. She needs to know if its physiologic reflux. If not, he needs more allergy testing.
