NTR: Left Bacon on the counter. Still good?

Left a sealed package of bacon on the counter for 3.5 hours after grocery shopping. We put the groceries away and went out for dinner...missed the bacon. Would you still eat it? Do you think we should eat it tomorrow rather than storing it longer?

  • Was it still cold?  Cold - I would eat it tomorrow.  Room temp -I would toss it.

  • The "danger zone" for food is when it is at a temp of 40 to 140 degrees f. Meaning it's most likely to grow bacteria etc. Food sitting at room temp usually fits that range and should never be out more than 2 hours. I don't think I'd chance it.

  • I wouldn't risk it unfortunately. Like pp, I also follow the 2 hour rule.
  • 3 1/2 hours...I would cook it happily tomorrow.  To be honest, as long as your house isn't hot, like in the 80s, I would be fine so long as it's eaten this week.  Most all bacon is cured.

That's my train of thought too
