Tricare ?

I just had my first appointment with my PCM on friday to get my referral pregnancy confirmation... Does anyone know how soon I can expect a phone call as to when it has been approved when I will have my first OB appointment... Also will they set up that appointment, or will I need to? Thanks in advance!

Re: Tricare ?

  • completely depends on where you are and who your doctors are, which region you are in, if you are seen on base, civilian. etc every area/doctor is different

  • Both places where I have been pregnant have had large MTFs - I just went in, got a pregnancy test, and then made an appointment with the nurse for my PCM's team of providers. At the appointment with the nurse, I filled out preliminary paperwork, and then she set me up with the OB department.

When you have your first OB appointment will depend on how your OB handles first appointments, as well as availability. The OBs on base didn't really want you to make an appointment until you are 10-12 weeks. It really just depends on where you are.

Go ahead and call Tricare to see if your referral is in yet. It won't hurt anything. The person who tells you that should also be able to tell you if you need to set up the appointment or not.
  • Thank you everyone for the suggestions and input.... This is the first time I've ever used my tricare so I really appreciate all of your responses.

This.  For me, there are no OBs on base so I see a civilian doc.  After my blood test was confirmed, I got a call from the nurse that said that she would put in the request for a referral and a script for prenatals.  It took about a week and a trip to the Tricare office to get the referral in hand then I called the OB listed on my referral to set up the appointment.

Same exact thing here! They said they 'switched' to United Health Care and have been having to give clients a written waiver and referral sheet instead of calling an OB for you. And with the AF everything takes a little longer than you want it to.
