horrible night vent

Today, for the first time ever, DS did not have any weight gain  (9 wks). He typically has gained about 8 oz/wk, but he weighed the same today as he had on Monday. As I had mentioned, he's been getting fussy at the breast, but has had regular wet and soiled diapers. He also eats 8 times everyday. The LCs suggested maybe he was going too long w/out feedings and wanted me to try for 9 per day. Tonight, the prebed nursing session wasn't the best. He was overtired so fussy at first then sleepy. At midnight DH gave him a pumped bottle. He took it fine. He woke up at 3 out of swaddle. Normally, I would try to reswaddle and see if he'd sleep more, but thinking of LC advice, I got him up. Tried nursing but he had a lazy latch and started dozing. Normally, I would have put him back to bed figuring he wasn't hungry yet. But due to weight cincern, I grabbed the bottle I pumped at midnight. He didn't seem interested, basically dribling out whatever was in his mouth, but I persisted...and then he spit up everything he'd managed to swallow. And DS never spits up. Ugh. So now he is back in bed, he didn't eat, I wasted a 3oz bottle, he'll probably be actually hungry soon and I am pumping and not getting as much as I should be all if a sudden. In the middle of all of this I just had a sobbing meltdown. I just don't know what to do. I went against my instincts first at getting him up then at trying to force the bottle. But I feel like my instincts which I thought were good, led to DS not gaining weight. This sucks.

    Was it the same scale? Why was he weighed twice this week?

    Definitely the same scale.  It was at BF support group, where we weigh before and after feeding the LOs.

    ((HUGS)) I went through a period with DS where he had to go to the pedi weekly for weight checks.  Hang in there, I know it's frustrating. Just do your diaper counts and try to keep the feedings going. I'm glad you've gotten help with a LC, I wish I had with DS because I didn't BF as long as I'd like to.  I ended up FF by 6 months.

    I'm sorry, hon.  I, too, wonder if she's just between spurts.  There's a huge one around 6-8 weeks, so she may just be pausing a bit.  (((Hugs))) Hang in there.
