Was just wondering, what % of your LO's speech is fully understandable. J has a ton of words, but he still has stretches where you can't understand much of anything he's saying. I'd say he's probably about 66% understandable. I know all of our kids work at different paces, but was just wondering if he was in the ballpark. TIA.
Re: What % of speech is understandable
I can understand everything hazel says. People who don't know her are sometimes unsure of a few words, but mostly they can understand. I think it's more what she says that throws them off because she talks about ridiculous shiz lol.
Sometimes she still babbles on purpose though, like whenever I'm on the phone in the car she's like "blahahalblahifnanjajahhooohhieee" as loud as she can just to drive me insane. But I don't count that because I know she's not trying to communicate, just being a big ole poopy AW.
This. A is getting speech services and while he has picked up a lot of words recently, he still babbles a lot.
he is babbling a lot. But I know what he means, even though I don't understand the words.
J was a late bloomer both with walking, teething and talking - I know this.
I am not concerned because there are other areas he is over the chart on - such as remembering tunes and lyrics, fine motor skills, social (including compassion and trustful), creativity and concentration
Same. Although, I generally understand a lot of what N says. He just chooses not to talk at all. He does still jargon a lot.

I am totally guilty of this. He talks & thinks like he's a lot older , so when he does act like a two yr old (you know, tantrums, whining, etc), I find that I get very frustrated b/c my expectations are higher. I have to remind myself that he's only 2.
lol This is me and DH too. J acts older most of the time, at least compared to the other 2 year olds we see. It really frustrated DH when J doesn't immediately listen or respond or do something we ask him to. I always have to tell him he's only 2!!
I understand 90 plus percent of what J says. But other people have a harder time understanding him when he talks fast, even when it's clear as a bell to me.
This is my G too. Advanced verbally, but still on the clumsy side physically.
understandable to whom? To me and DH, I'd say the vast majority of what he says is understandable, but sometimes it takes me a while. ETA: probably 90-95% like others have said.
Example -- DS rarely watches "tv" of any kind (we don't even have one, but we will have him watch something on the computer from time to time), but he loves it. So he'll often say, "I want to watch monster truck computer" or "I want to watch wheels on bus computer." (not that well articulated, though.) Well today he said, "I want to watch homasimsuh computer" and I was like "wtf is that?!" It took me a few tries before I realized he said "homer simpson." He watched a tiny bit of the simpsons ONCE (we are fans and have the dvds and only gave him a clean clip) several weeks ago so it wasn't on my mind as something he'd want to do. I found another brief clean clip to let him watch today.
Also, DS says "semixer" for "cement mixer." Basically he leaves out a syllable. Now it's really easy for us to understand him, but the first few times he said it we didn't know what he was saying, and if a new person hears him say it they won't know, either. There are a lot of examples like that.
