I gave DS a tooth brush with a little of the kids training toothpaste. He thinks it is the greatest thing ever, which results in a crying tantrum when I have to take he toothbrush back bc he is walking around the house drooling all over with it.
We started brushing his teeth a few months ago maybe. He loves it. We sing the ABC's, and the toothbrush looks like a little banana which he likes. We make it a fun, "oooooh it's time to brush teeth!" exciting thing. We make silly faces at him in the bathroom mirror and go "awwwww" to get him to open his mouth up wide.

Yup, us too. I let him do it himself for a minute, then I jump in and do a good scrub of the whole mouth and then let him continue. He's good at getting the back but he can't do the front teeth on his own at least not a worthwhile job!)

We always do it during bath time at night. We use training toothpaste now, but first started with just the toothbrush. He went through a week or 2 of not liking it a couple months back, but now lets me brush them with no problem and will often take the brush to gnaw on for a while himself. I do have a friend whose 2 1/2 year old still hates it, but I've witnessed their big ordeal of putting him in the high chair and doing it that way. Not sure why he hates it so much. I definitely think starting by letting them play with the toothbrush helps. Good luck!
We do it with a little kids brush when I remember. He's always been fascinated watching us brush our teeth, so he thinks it's pretty cool that he gets to do it now. I do it for him still. I talk through all the steps and then we say bye bye to the toothbrush when we're done. He's never fussed about it.

We started in January after his first two teeth came through. He picked up the idea pretty quickly. He hates to give it back though...
