Finally, after much discussion, I made our consult appointment with the IVF clinic. Its not until June 11th, so I have plenty of time to be nervous about it
.
We also ave an appointment with the financial person that day...that is what DH is mostly worried about...such the budgeter.
For those that have done this...what questions should I have ready for the appointment??
Happy Friday and TIA!

Re: Made my IVF consult appointment
We just had ours Tuesday! Unfortunately the Finance person wasn't able to sit down with us too so we're doing that part over the phone.
Questions I asked my RE:
- Is there anything else you recommend trying prior to doing IVF?
- Do you have any predictions about how I would respond to stims based on my labs and prior response on meds?
- At what point do you cancel cycles?
- What percentage of cycles get cancelled for people with my diagnosis?
- How many embryos do you typically transfer for someone of my age and diagnosis?
- What do you project as our success rate? What is this based on and is it by clinical pregnancy rate or live birth rate?
- Do you routinely do ICSI?
- Do you routinely recommend doing assisted hatching?
- How often do you do 3 day transfers vs 5 day?
Questions I asked my nurse:
- What to expect in terms of frequency of monitoring appointments
- How do weekend monitoring appointments work?
- Lifting or activity restrictions
- What I should expect with each med, what is abnormal that I should be concerned about
- If my RE himself will do my ER and ET or if it will be another doctor in the practice.
- Are ER/ET done at same office you are seen at or another office?
- How med ordering works
Hope that helps and good luck!
ETA: Also, if you are going to be signing your consents at this appointment ask your nurse if she can send them over now so you guys can read over and discuss. H and I specifically had to decide what we want done with any non-viable embryos (discarded or used for Quality Control in the lab), if we are ok with freezing embryos, and what we want done with any frozen embryos in the event that we divorce or one of us dies (discard, use in research, donate to another woman). We also had to make a decision about if we were ok with frozen embryos being transferred to a long term storage facility.
Lastly, ask if they have any research studies you qualify for, if thats something you'd be interested in. My nurse brought up the one I qualify for on my own and I actually hadn't thought of asking myself.

Curly listed lots of good questions! I would add a couple more...
- ask about chances of multiples if you put 1 versus 2 back
- ask about your chances of OHSS and how to avoid it
- ask whether they offer financial options like Attain or ARC
- ask about any other Rx or OTC meds you might be on (claratin, advil, etc.)
ETA: Good luck with your appointment!! And enjoy the time between now and then relaxing and preparing yourself. I'm so glad I took a break before IVF - I feel so much more ready now. I hope you will too!
ETA again: Just saw that you got in for Tuesday - that is great! I hope everything goes well.

So excited for you! And very cool it got moved up to this Tues. Try not to be too nervous, it's really not that bad. An IRL friend told me that all together, IVF can seem overwhelming and scary. But if you take it one day at a time and look at it that way, it's really not that bad. And she was so right! Just hopefully you don't have to deal with OHSS, that was the sucky part for me. But all worth it in the end.
GL hun!

Lots of good questions were posted already. To prep for my consult I re-read a chapter on IVF in one of my infertility books and made DH read it too. I think it was a little out of date, but it helped me to ask better questions at the appointment b/c I already understood the basics. Lurking on IF helped too! One additional question I asked was what my RE's position was on bed rest so I would know how much time to expect out of work.
Good luck, glad that your appointment got moved up!
IF, 5 losses, 1 son, 1 on the way.
