Did you have daycare worries?

Hi ladies I'm returning to work on Monday and starting my little guy in daycare full time. My main worry is that he's a reluctant napper. In afraid he'll be up all day and miserable and thus make his teachers and other kids miserable. Did anyone share my concerns prior to their infants starting daycare and were your worries unfounded? Did your kids adjust quickly? I could use a pep talk :

You will soon be amazed at what your baby will do at daycare and not at home... Even at a young age the sicial pressure works miracles. Once your LO's teachers have a few weeks, your LO will be attached and so will you! The first few days are hard. Good luck!

  • No worries here!  I called mid-day on the first day and talked to the teachers who gave me a rundown of her day: happy, eating, napping, playing, etc...  After that I only call if I thought she may be getting sick.

The teachers are expereinced and qualified and in generally lovely people.  I have 100% confidence in their abiility to care for DD.  I also know that the director and assistant director are very hands on when it comes to helping teachers if they need an extra set of hands.

I didn't know how naps and eating would go, but I figured this is one of MANY times and DD"s life that she will need to adapt to her surroundings, and I figured that chances were good that she would.

  • I wasn't worried about anything except for naps. She had always been rocked to sleep and took naps on us and had never slept in a crib. I told them all of this and filled out a sheet with all her likes/dislikes, concerns etc. Just let them know and they will work with him.

  • I agree w/pp's. I had the exact same concern, but DS has been sleeping like it's his job at daycare. I wouldn't worry too much. DCP's are great at getting babies to sleep.

For some reason, my LO naps perfectly at daycare...just not at home. And no, they have never shared their secret.

This. The other day I asked my DC lady if she could share her fairy dust with me...

  • I was worried about sleeping, eating, would she be happy, you name it. ALL my concerns and worries were unfounded.

Things were different than at home, but she ate, slept and was very happy. The teachers are awesome.

While its an adjustment for you and baby, you will likely be surprised how easily it goes.

  • I'm sure I originally had lots of worries, but things have worked out wonderfully for us.  In fact, there are so many things they have taught him that I didn't even know he could do.  For example, a while ago I didn't think DS could hold up his own bottle.  Then I see a picture of DS on their blog holding up his own bottle, and I was all like, "WHAT!  He can do that?!"  This is just one example of the numerous ways daycare has improved our lives and helped my son.

    Good luck!

  • Well, based on these posts, I think I have a more stubborn baby (like her mama, lol). Dd just completed her first week at daycare. She will barely eat or nap still, and DC provider tries everything. She will allow 1-2oz of BM to drip into her mouth the whole time there (from 9-4), no active sucking, and is only napping 30 min-1.5hrs when in the swing and it is kept on. So yeah...kind of sucks, but she eats and naps a ton when home, so hopefully she is making up for it. I'm sure she will eventually figure it out, but it's taking longer than we hoped.
