Babies: 6 - 9 Months

6 months - worst sleep ever?

DS has never slept through the night, he'd wake 2 x to feed, but he was always consistent. The last two weeks have been nightmarish. We didn't live through the whole 4 month sleep regression, so I'm guessing this is our payback.

Teething? Could starting solids be affecting his sleep? The longest he'll sleep is 2-3 hours max at a time. Screams when I put him in the crib. Will only sleep in the RNP for short periods. Lately I've been giving up and sleeping with him in the guest bed and just nursing him every time he wakes up so he hopefully falls back asleep, but then he's usually up by 4-5 AM anyway. Goo.

If it's teething, I would give him Tylenol, I just don't want to do it if I don't have to. And I certainly don't want to do it every night, but I don't want him to be in pain either. He's been refusing the pacifier at night and screaming if I try to give it to him.

Just hoping to hear this is normal and it will go away... eventually. :)

Re: 6 months - worst sleep ever?

  • I posted something similar yesterday! DS is going through the same thing. He hit six months on Tuesday. We missed the 4 month wakeful also. He was VERY consistent with sleeping, fell asleep on his own without a peep and napped great. The last week hes been throwing fits and will barely nap and is up 2-3 times a night. We have had two nights where he wouldnt sleep at all! I think its a growth spurt.

  • This has been the story of my life for the last 2-3 months, my baby was just starting to improve with sleep and then it all went to hell in a hand basket.  Not sure what to tell you.  I have done the same as you, sharing the bed.  The problem now it she wants to nurse all night.

  • I wish I could help but my Lo has been this exact way for almost 2 months now. Seems to just get worse.

  • it might be teething! my son is 6 months and hes a little gassy from all the new foods and the dr said his gums are swollen...i give gripe water around 7PM (he goes to sleep at 730) and if i see that hsi teeth are bothering him, i will give tylenol right before his bottle...honestly, if hes screaming, i'm not going to have him in pain with the teeth! i dont give tylenol often but when hes crying and screaming, my dr even said just give it...during the day i give all teethers but at night i want him to be able to sleep within any pain! good luck!
