Grumpy ranty vent

Really pissed at DH right now. Axel usually goes down for the night relatively easily but everyonce in a while its really difficult to get him to sleep. He'll be tired but keep fighting it so then he gets over tired and it just becomes a mess. tonight was one of those nights nd DH is absolutely NO HELP!!!

He usually isn't a huge help with Axel as it is but if he sees I'm having a difficult time he'll step in at any other time except when I'm trying to get him to sleep. At first i chalked it up to us being away for 3 weeks because Axel changed a lot in that time so I figured DH just needed to see how things work again and figure it out. Nope. And if i ask him "could you please help me for a few minutes? I'm really getting worked up" he takes Axel and sits him on the couch next to him for a few minutes completely undoing all the work I just put into getting him to sleep. UGH!!!!

rant over. Just needed to get it out

Ugh, that sounds terrible!  It's the worst when they get overtired and it must be really hard to feel like you can never switch off :(

Maybe you need to discuss it with him (when it's not actually happening) and let him know ways he can help.  Like offering to step in before you ask, and what he should do when he takes over.  Maybe he just doesn't know what to do and that's why he doesn't offer?  Not that that's an excuse, but you should see if you can get to the root of the problem and try to get on the same page as far as how to move forward.

Sorry.  I hope your LO is down for the night now!

  • If it makes you feel any better, my H does try to help and it is no use anyway. Example is tonight when LO woke up crying about 45 minutes after we put her down for the night. I told him it was his turn. The monitor was still on so I hear him pick her up and she is still crying and then she just kept crying louder and louder and harder and harder for the next three minutes until I couldn't take it anymore and went in.

There he is, holding her all wrong and she is hysterical. I ask him what he is doing, take her and hold her upright as I am standing and she stopped crying immediately. I walked around a bit bouncing her and she burped within a couple minutes and then I put her down on my lap (like I told him before how to do) and she was asleep again within 5 minutes. He doesn't seem to get that if she is ramping up you need to do something drastically different than what you are doing at that moment. He just reverted back to what he did when she was three weeks old after putting her on his lap wasn't working right away. No clue that there is a reason she woke up crying which was that she needed desperately to burp. Guess we will try again tomorrow.
