baby Nightmares?

Can babies have nightmares? DS started this really weird crying in the middle of the night. Kind of crying, kind of barking almost. When I went in, he was still fully asleep, but definitely unhappy. It wasn't until I had picked him up, sat down in the rocking chair and started talking to him that he opened his eyes and then it took him another minute or so to really recognize me. It was the strangest thing. Definitely weirded me out. Thoughts?

Re: baby Nightmares?

  • I firmly believe that my son has nightmares sometimes. he will whine and cry in his sleep. i just talk to him and rock him until it passes. but nightmares are important for development so i don't worry to much

  • My LO does this as well, he'll cry and whimper in his sleep. I notice it during naps only. The last two days he's woken up from his nap crying so loud I ran into the room thinking something was wrong. It took me a while to calm him down, so it must of been a bad one. I can't imagine what he could have nightmares about?

  • DD does that. We ignore it at first and if it gets really bad we go in and try to comfort her and give her her paci.
